Hi! I am an Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who is very passionate about helping to improve the lives of others. I have experience working with individuals and families, specializing in anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, domestic violence, and trauma informed care. I love learning so I make it a point to use evidence-based approaches in therapy to help you meet your needs, including my training in EMDR therapy.
In our first session, my main goal is to provide a safe space while we get to know each other better. Sometimes clients who attend therapy for the first time, tell me they feel relieved at the end of the first session because they weren't sure what to expect. I consider the first session to be a little more informal, so we will not be fixing all of your problems in that one session. It usually starts with us briefly going over basic guidelines in my practice to make sure we are on the same page and I give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may need answered before we start. Next we start the assessment, which involves going over questionnaires previously filled out and collecting additional information that may be helpful to create a plan moving forward. I always encourage questions through this process to make sure you feel informed and an equal partner in your own treatment.
I believe one of my greatest strengths is my ability to make others feel safe and heard, which helps in building the therapeutic relationship and working through challenges together. I have 6 years of direct therapeutic experience but over 15 years of experience in social services. I've worked in different setting like community centers, a domestic violence center, a psychiatric office, and college settings; which gives me a range of working with different populations and creating tailored plans best suited for each person individually.
I have utilized a supportive treatment approach in my sessions to help provide a safe space to clients to feel heard, supported, and have their emotional experience validated.
Utilizing a strength-based approach has been beneficial to help clients identify their own internal strengths and resourcefulness, helping us work together to build on that.
I use EMDR therapy to help clients reprocess trauma in order to minimize or eliminate trauma related symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral therapy has been beneficial to help clients identify the link between their own self-talk and behaviors, in order to adapt more positive thinking patterns to improve behavior and overall mental well-being.
Providing trauma informed care has been beneficial to help provide a safe space to overcome trauma without feeling re-traumatized.
