Hi, I am Dr. Sills-Tailor as your therapist I provide support, guidance, and encouragement on your journey to change. I work with you in the exploration of your life so that you can make sense of your past, experience your present and look hopefully toward the future. We will work on identifying patterns of thinking and behaviors outside of your awareness and use this knowledge to create lasting change. I received my training and education at Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University and Harvard Medical School .
In our first session, I like to set expectations for my role as a therapist and your role as a client. We will work collaboratively and there should be no surprises. We will figure out a treatment plan, discuss schedules and complete basic paperwork and figure out our strategy for your wellness.
My strengths as a therapist is that I have a therapist. I believe in the work that I do. I know that having a relationship with a trusted professional can make all the difference in response to Life's Challenges.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques with many of my clients. One go to technique, is Socratic questioning. This use of questioning to challenge thought distortions is beneficial for many and is a great opportunity for the client to reflect on the content of their thoughts that proceed behaviors that are not serving their best interest.
When working with clients I take into consideration how their background and belief system is influenced by their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or other aspects of their identity including military background or that of being a first responder.
I really like doing group work. In many instances we feel like, "I am the only one". Group work helps dispel the myth of us being a unicorn experiencing life. Group work allows us to see how another person made it through a tough spot and that recovery is possible.
