Danica Brazaitis

LPC, 7 years of experience

About me

I work with GMH issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, self-esteem, emotion regulation, and personality disorders. I work mostly with adults, but also teenagers age 16 and up. I encourage clients to follow their compass. I recognize clients are the experts on their lives. Progress in counseling is a team effort! I guide my clients out of the forest to have a better view of the trees. If you don't know where you're going, any path will get you there. I hold clients accountable to get back on the right path to meet their goals.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I have a laid-back style. I value being genuine, transparent, and direct with my clients, often using humor during sessions to make clients comfortable. A weekly "homework" would be to go about the upcoming week with new insights and beliefs versus completing worksheets.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Just like we do not need to respond to every text message that comes in, nor do we need to react to every thought enters our heads. ACT teaches clients to acknowledge and accept their unhelpful thoughts in order to then commit to letting them go.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

How we think affects how we feel, which in turn affects how we behave. This is the basis of CBT. In sessions, we will identify negative cognitions and replace them with more positive ones.

Christian Counseling

At a client's request, I can merge Christian values with traditional therapeutic interventions to help you meet your goals.

EMDR

When we are faced with a scary traumatic event, a negative belief about ourselves is born. This negative belief stays with us unless we reprocess it differently. Through emdr, we will identify these negative beliefs and reprocess the traumatic event with a more helpful belief. This in turn will make the traumatic event less impactful so you can move forward in life. Trauma-informed means being aware of the impact of trauma and taking steps to avoid re-traumatizing clients.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT aims to help people identify problematic behaviors and replace them with new, more effective ones. The four main skills of DBT include: Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, and Distress Tolerance.
