Hello! My name is Genna Weisheit and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Indiana. I have a Master of Social Work from IUPUI and have worked in human services and social work since 2013. I approach therapy from a trauma informed and collaborative mindset utilizing a variety of evidenced based practices and interventions. I enjoy providing a comfortable and safe space for clients to authentically work on their goals to improve their life. I am empathetic, understanding, and have a straight forward communication style.
In our first session together, I'll provide information regarding my practice and what to expect from therapy. I will ask for information about you, your specific challenges, and your goals in order to create a plan for treatment together.
My professional and lived experiences allow me to provide clients with a grounded perspective that focuses on authenticity, individual strengths, and self acceptance.
I have experience working with a large variety of populations and mental health challenges. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated and receptive to change, but need guidance on where or how to start.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist clients with learning how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected, explore strategies to reduce maladaptive patterns, and improve overall functioning.
I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to assist clients with learning specific skills to manage intense emotions utilizing techniques such as distress tolerance, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced based intervention that has been shown to be effective with PTSD and trauma. I utilize EMDR to assist clients with reprocessing traumatic experiences while engaging in bilateral stimulation such as eye movements. This structured intervention is effective for reducing emotional disturbance associated with traumatic memories.
