I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 8 years of experience. I am also a Licensed School Counselor. I specialize in trauma-informed care for children, adolescents, and adults, including military veterans and first responders. My approach focuses on supporting those facing mental health challenges like PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I use evidence-based therapies to help clients build resilience, cope with stress, and improve overall well-being.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strengths are rooted in both my professional experience and personal journey. I have specialized in providing trauma-informed support to children and adolescents dealing with challenges like community violence and poverty. This experience has deepened my empathy and resilience, shaped by my own past experiences. Navigating personal trauma, life challenges, and parenting has cultivated qualities of patience, understanding, and flexibility. My years as a School Counselor and insights gained from parenting uniquely prepare me to support individuals with diverse needs and navigate complex family dynamics. All of these experiences enrich my approach to trauma recovery and broader mental health issues, fostering a supportive environment for my clients' growth and healing.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my practice, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) because it's proven effective and practical. CBT helps clients pinpoint and change negative thoughts and behaviors that cause distress. By learning to challenge these patterns, clients develop healthier ways of coping and improve their overall well-being.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed care is central to my practice. It focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel respected and empowered. I approach each client with sensitivity to how past trauma may affect their mental health, aiming to help them regain a sense of control and resilience.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a key method in my practice for its practical and goal-oriented approach. It explores clients' strengths and resources to create actionable solutions to their current challenges. By focusing on what clients want to achieve rather than dwelling on problems, SFBT encourages rapid progress and empowers clients to build on their successes. This approach fosters a positive therapeutic environment that helps clients make meaningful changes efficiently.

Polyvagal Therapy

Polyvagal theory guides how I work with clients by explaining how our nervous system responds to stress and emotions. It helps me understand and address how past experiences can affect a person's ability to feel safe and manage stress. Using techniques based on polyvagal theory, like grounding exercises and awareness of bodily sensations, I support clients in building resilience and restoring a sense of calm and safety in their lives.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

In my practice, I use mindfulness-based therapy to help clients stay present and non-judgmentally aware of their thoughts and feelings. By teaching mindfulness skills such as focused breathing and body scan exercises, I empower clients to manage anxiety, depression, and other challenges more effectively, promoting overall well-being and resilience.
