Hi, I'm Sharon, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Florida. I received my Bachelor's degree from Tulane University, a Master's degree in Social Work from Barry University, and have been practicing in a variety of settings for over 30 years. Our journey in this world can sometimes present us with confusion and challenges. Making the choice to engage in therapy is most definitely a life-changing decision. Whether this is your first time reaching out or you've decided to return to therapy, I'm glad your making the right choice in finding your peace and taking care of you! I work with adults who often feel stuck, depressed, anxious, overwhelmed and burnt out, or dealing with trauma, distressing life situations/transitions, grief, or complicated relationship issues, and have found difficulty in adapting. I enjoy helping clients build coping strategies to address stressors and conditions impacting health and happiness, as well as exploring and resolving past histories impacting current functioning. I've worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings addressing mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, abuse, dissociative disorders, and eating disorders. I'd like to offer you a safe space in a warm and inclusive environment as we work toward your healing!
The primary goal of the first session is to ensure you feel safe and comfortable. As we get to know each other, you'll have an opportunity to share thoughts or questions you may have about the therapeutic process to help you feel more at ease. Our conversations will give me the opportunity to understand the reasons you are presently seeking therapy, explore with you your personal history, your strengths and struggles, and discuss goals to create a treatment plan for future sessions.
Strong empathy, sincerity, and genuine acceptance has provided the foundation through which I make connections and interacting in a nonjudgemental, supportive, and collaborative environment guides the therapeutic process toward healing. My integrative approach allows us to design the treatment plan individualized to your strengths and needs.
CBT has been the predominate method of treatment throughout my practice. We will work together to help you better understand ineffective thought and behavior patterns to be able to make changes in those patterns. This allow for the ability to act and to feel better within oneself, and about the world around you. This strategy allows us to stay in the present in order to move forward toward a healthier here and now and your future.
The power of self-reflection allows one to create a place of understanding. This journey of self-reflection is useful for the clients who want to obtain increased personal insight and spend some time processing their personal history in order to improve one’s sense of self-worth and one’s capacity for developing and maintaining more satisfying relationships, as well as developing a better use of talents and abilities.
Often as a way to support the identified client, I use structural family therapy to look at the make-up of the family unit to work toward improving the interactions between family. Together we often use mapping to uncover unhealthy or counterproductive patterns of behavior and family interactions. This helps us determine how family dynamics maintain these interactions as a springboard to begin making changes.
