Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? Do you feel like there are issues seemingly out of your control that are holding you back from living the life you want to live? If you answered yes to either of these questions, I want you to know that help is available! My name is Brian Cooper, and I am one of your local licensed clinical social workers. I come to you with over 25 years of experience and have worked with individuals, couples and groups in a variety of settings. I am well-versed in assisting clients with issues surrounding, depression, anxiety, grief, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, family conflicts, chronic illness, career counseling and male issues just to name a few. I understand on a personal level how internal and external struggles impact our lives and the lives of those around us. I have had the opportunity to help many over the years to realize their full potential and see the beauty in the world around them again. I come from a holistic perspective and understand the mind and body connection. I truly believe everyone deserves help if they are struggling and I want to help you on your journey to wellness.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect that I provide a safe space to express their needs and concerns. I am here to listen fully without judgement. I like to build rapport and trust with my clients and allow time for them to be comfortable. I start with very basic questions about what has brought them to therapy and what they feel is most important to work on. I collaborate with them on treatment plans and goals as I want to start where they are on their journey. I respect their rights to privacy and understand that they may not want to disclose everything during an initial session. I am happy to answer questions they may have about my background and abilities to help them. I strive to make clients comfortable during sessions as I realize sharing struggles with someone new can be uncomfortable. My hope is that a new client walks away with some knowledge and tools that they find helpful on day one.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have been very fortunate in my career to have worked with a very diverse population of individuals suffering from a variety of illnesses. I pride myself in understanding and being understood no matter my audience. I have a true desire to help others and cannot describe the feeling a therapist experiences when a client achieves their goals and is living the lives they desire. Having had my own sets backs in life, I feel that I can empathize with many of my clients while on their journey to wellness.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I will help any client who is in need. Ideally, a client that is motivated for change and receptive to suggestions and tools for life improvement have the best outcomes in therapy.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized this treatment method over the years with very positive results per client feedback. CBT allows the clinician to help clients have a better understanding of how their thoughts influence their behaviors. With this knowledge and practice individuals are able to make positive life changes.

Grief Therapy

I have had the honor of working within hospice programs over my career. With this experience I honed the ability to help others cope with and move forward with their grief process. Grief can be a lifelong journey, but with the proper tools and support clients are able to continue to live a full life.

Mind-body approach

The connection between the mind and body is very strong. I have encountered many clients over the years who have lost focus of this and suffer needlessly. I help individuals to reconnect with this bond and take back control of their lives.

Strength-Based

It can be easy to focus on negative aspects of life, especially when they impact daily functioning and seem overwhelming to address. This method allows clients to identify and utilize current abilities and situations that are favorable for wellness, but often times overlooked or not in focus.
