Hey there! I'm A licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I received my Masters From Santa Clara University and I've been practicing for 8 years. I help women who are emotionally struggling with reproductive trauma, whether that be a loss, infertility, pre/postpartum, to feel validated, understood, and find healing. I hope to provide a safe space for women to talk about the emotions and physical pain that comes with the journey of parenthood.
I start by introductions and then I reiterate limits of confidentiality. I enjoy explaining the process of treatment with highlighting risks and benefits of therapy. I see if the client has any questions and then I move on to asking what are the main concerns for seeking therapy. From there I ask assessment questions on symptoms, family, relationships, substance use, any suicidal ideation, treatment goals, etc.
With experiencing my own grief with reproduction and first hand experience with depression/anxiety/panic, I have been able to heal myself from my emotional aches. Thus, I can apply what worked for me and teach my clients new ways of coping, managing emotions, reframing thoughts, and self care.
I enjoy working with young women who are in the midst of building a career, balancing a family life, but having difficulty in managing anxiety, stress, and incorporating self care. These are also women who are feeling alone in motherhood, or in the journey of reproduction. They often feel overwhelmed, unseen, lonely, and unsupported by their spouses. These clients are looking for validation, to simply talk about their experience, and wanting to connect in order to see that they aren't alone in their experience.
I utilize CBT by first providing psychoeducation on how our thoughts can impact our emotions and behaviors. If appropriate, I do assign worksheets for homework or practice outside of session. One mechanism I use regularly is reframing/redirecting irrational thinking. This can help interrupt spiraling, anxious thinking, and increase rational thinking. Thus, decreasing cognitive distortions .
Im certified in Mindfulness. I incorporate meditation, calming techniques such as 5 senses, tapping, breathing, and any externalization that may support a client in being present and in the moment. Also, a way to build awareness of the self.
I believe how we view the world and ourselves in the world is shaped by our childhood influences/experiences. I do assess history/childhood, family dynamics, relationships, while using active listening and providing validation for what may come into awareness.
