Hello! My name is Colleen Ray, and I am an LMSW (Licensed Masters Social Worker) in Michigan. I received my MSW from the University of Michigan, and have been practicing in the field of Emotional-Behaivoral Health for over 30 years. My experience and expertise has allowed me to create a therapeutic space where people learn to fall in love with life again.
Our initial session is about you, and what brought you to therapy. The only expectation is that you show up for the appointment, and be willing to answer some assessment questions. Therapy is about building a relationship, and our first session is the foundation the therapeutic relationship.
My ability to connect, and create a safe space for positive change.
I use PVT to help clients understand the ways their nervous system shapes experiences of safety and connection, and guides (impacts) the way we live, love, and work. PVT is "the science of feeling safe enough to fall in love with live". (Deb Dana). PVT work involves understanding and developing tools, and practices to help you partner with your nervous system and bring more moments of regulation.
I use elements of CBT in my therapy practice with clients to bring awareness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT helps clients change thought patterns, and coping behaviors - going from dis-regulated reactions to more adaptive responses.
I have used EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in my therapy practice for 2 years with clients who have experienced trauma. EMDR therapy facilitates processing traumatic experiences, allowing for healing and repair. EMDR is used in conjunction with PVT, and CBT.
I use the following treatment methods, and have been using them for 25+ years: DBT, Play Therapy (children), CPT for PTSD (3yrs). Exposure Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and IFS
