Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Connecticut. I have been a School Counselor for over 20 years. I have a Masters Degree in School Counseling from Central CT State University and a Masters Degree in Psychology, with a specialization Child and Adolescent Development, from Capella University. Such issues I provide guidance include helping adolescents and families work through challenges in development, peer relationships, parenting issues, career exploration, anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions.
In our first session together, we will start with a brief introduction on your “why” and explore more specifically the challenges you are experiencing. We will engage in learning about your history and current situation, what your goals are, and develop a plan for future sessions.
As a provider, I feel that I bring a sense of compassion, understanding and empathy to our sessions. I am invested in learning about current issues, treatment modalities and best practices to ensure that I can incorporate this into practice.
Together with ACT, we will explore and work on acceptance of inner emotions and deeper feelings and commit to a plan of improvement. Acceptance of what we are facing, and committed to making changes in behavior will be the journey we will take together.
By utilizing CBT, we will explore the symptoms or behavior patterns that are challenging and set goals for treatment. In follow up sessions, we will explore negative thinking about the current problems and determine whether or not these thoughts are realistic. From there, we will work to challenge and change the thinking pattern to be more accurate.
My practice with Solution Focused Brief treatment (SFBT) is a grounded in the belief that people have the strength, wisdom, experience, and resilience to effect change. Together, a positive outlook on what the client is already doing to create change will be brought into generating goals for change. Individuals learn to focus on what they can do, rather than what they can’t do.
