LPC, 5 years of experience
New to Grow
Hello there and welcome! My name is Rachel and my background includes years of experience in addiction & recovery settings, where I’ve supported clients through sober curiosity, early sobriety, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and long-term healing. I understand addiction not as a moral failing, but as a response to pain. My scope is not just limited to working in addictions. I have have experience in supporting those with mental health concerns such as bipolar disorder, depression, suicidal ideation, paranoia, and hallucinations. Alongside my clinical training, I bring a holistic lens to my work, informed by my certification as a 200-hour yoga teacher. I integrate mindfulness, breathwork, and body awareness into sessions, helping you reconnect with your body's inner wisdom. Together, we can explore how to begin (or deepen) your journey of self-exploration.
During our first session we will get to know one another. I will take time to explain my approaches to therapeutic work and learn more about what you are hoping to get from therapy. I'll also ask about your past experiences with counseling so that we can sort out what does and does not work for you! We will begin to imagine what life will look like 1 month, 6 months, and 12 months from now.
I bring a whole tool kit of tools to our sessions together. Therapy is not a one size fits all interaction. I will work to tailor my approach to our work together to get you feeling better as quickly as possible. Feel like something isn't working? We will collaborate together to find what does. Rooted in a trauma-informed perspective and supported by EMDR training, my work gently guides clients toward uncovering how survival strategies & old behaviors that once protected them may now be holding them back.
Clients who benefit from working with me are often carrying the load of substance abuse or significant mental health challenges (often both at the same time). Perhaps you are concerned about your drinking and feel like you're numbing yourself through self-medicating. Maybe you've been fighting with the hopelessness of depression and are working up the motivation to seek support. Or maybe a loved one in your life has been encouraging you to "talk to someone." If any of these sounds like you, reach out, and let's begin our life changing work together. I specialize in working with individuals affected by substance use, addiction, trauma and the ripple effects these challenges create in all areas of life.
EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) can be used to address painful memories and distress caused by traumatic events. It can be a powerful tool to process what was done to you while creating healthy new ways to think about your self.
Our bodies hold information differently than our brains. Tapping into the power of the body can lead to exciting new discoveries. If you have ever felt a disconnect between the body and mind somcatic therpy can help re-link the two.
MI is often used in the treatment and exploration of substance use disorder. It is used to increase motivation to make changes to substance use habits and build insight into the root cause of those problematic behaviors.
