Sheryl Boyle is an EMDR Certified Therapist, a Brainspotting Certified Therapist and Consultant, a Clinical Hypnotist, and a Prenatal and Perinatal Educator. She understands how early childhood experiences, attachment wounds, and generational trauma are often the root cause of the symptoms of addiction, anxiety, depression, dissociative disorders, and other mental health issues. Using an integrative therapeutic approach based on the clients’ needs, she teaches healthier coping skills and boundaries. This typically helps clients decrease and manage their symptoms while improving their day-to-day functioning. She believes that everyone has the capacity to heal, grow, and thrive when their personal empowerment is supported. She is passionate about helping people expand their capacity to be Empowered To Thrive even after experiencing trauma.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then complete an assessment that helps show how your body's system has adapted from previous trauma. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with a diverse clientele, I’ve observed how trauma can manifest through various forms of abuse linked to differences in gender, religion, culture, ethnicity, and belief systems. These traumas are often stored in our bodies until we are ready to heal and release them. In doing so, we come to embrace our uniqueness, acknowledge, and respect a wide range of identities and experiences, and ultimately empowering ourselves to thrive.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach primarily used to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories. It is effective because it facilitates the brain’s natural healing process by integrating distressing memories with healthier cognitive and emotional responses. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, bilateral audio, or bilateral tactile movements) to help reframe these memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing individuals to move forward with less psychological distress. It is particularly beneficial for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique designed to help individuals process and release deep-seated emotional and psychological trauma. It works by identifying specific eye positions, or "brainspots," that are connected to unresolved issues in the brain. These spots help access and release traumatic memories or emotions, promoting healing and emotional regulation. Brainspotting is particularly effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and stress, as it targets the brain's deeper, subconscious processing centers, facilitating faster and more profound healing compared to traditional talk therapies. It also can be used with other therapy modalities to reduce the subjective unit of disturbance during the client's processing.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to access the subconscious mind, helping individuals address a wide range of issues such as anxiety, stress, phobias, pain management, and habits like smoking or overeating. By bypassing the critical conscious mind, hypnotherapy can promote deep relaxation and positive behavioral change, helping individuals overcome limiting beliefs, reduce anxiety, and improve mental and emotional well-being more effectively than through conscious effort alone.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals understand and heal the different "parts" of themselves, each representing distinct thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is particularly effective for resolving inner conflicts, trauma, and emotional pain by fostering self-compassion and integrating fragmented parts of the psyche. IFS promotes healing by encouraging individuals to access their "Self," a core, compassionate aspect of their identity, to mediate and heal these parts. This approach is especially beneficial for those struggling with self-criticism, anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma.

Eclectic

An eclectic therapy approach combining Brainspotting, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Hypnotherapy, and other therapeutic modalities offers a comprehensive, tailored treatment plan that addresses a wide range of emotional and psychological issues. By integrating these methods, therapists can target different aspects of the psyche: Brainspotting and EMDR help process deep trauma and distressing memories, IFS fosters internal harmony by addressing conflicting parts of the self, and Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious to promote behavioral change. This multi-faceted approach provides a flexible, personalized path to healing, enhancing the effectiveness of therapy for individuals with complex needs.
