Hello and welcome! As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist, specializing in working with middle-aged and older adults, I understand the daunting task of finding the right therapist amidst a sea of options. In my own journey, I recently faced the loss of my father to Louis Body Dementia and my mother to COVID. Being their caregiver was a complex blend of trials and rewards, offering me insights into the significance of my own therapeutic experience during those trying days and nights. While caring for my parents, I temporarily set aside my 'professional hat,' but I emerged from that experience with newfound wisdom that enriched both my personal and professional life. This firsthand understanding has equipped me even more to support you and your family more effectively within both the medical and mental health care systems. Recognizing that the aging process presents a unique set of challenges and needs, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you navigate this season of your life. Together, we can face the complexities and find the needed strength and resilience.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first therapy session, my primary goal is to create a comfortable and welcoming space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. We'll begin by discussing what brings you to therapy and any specific goals or concerns you may have. I'll ask some questions to better understand your background, experiences, and the challenges you're currently facing.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have experience and specialized training in the various stages of the aging process and am well-versed in the physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and social changes that accompany aging. My expertise extends to navigating the challenges of life transitions, grief and loss, caregiving distress, autonomy, coping, depression, anxiety and engaging in difficult conversations related to end-of-life matters.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Depending upon your goals, I often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) because it focuses on helping you accept your thoughts and feelings rather than trying to change or avoid them. This approach encourages you to identify your values and commit to actions that align with those values, even in the face of challenges. By fostering psychological flexibility, ACT helps you develop resilience and live a more meaningful life, allowing you to cope with difficulties while pursuing what truly matters to you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I also use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach because it helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. By identifying and challenging negative thought patterns, we can work together to develop healthier thinking and coping strategies. CBT is structured and goal-oriented, making it effective for addressing specific issues and promoting lasting change. It empowers you to take an active role in your healing process, which can lead to improved emotional well-being and greater resilience.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

A Person-Centered Therapy approach focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment where you feel understood and valued. This approach emphasizes your unique experiences and perspective, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. By fostering a genuine, non-judgmental relationship, I aim to empower you to find your own solutions and insights. This collaborative process can lead to personal growth and a deeper understanding of yourself.
