Welcome! I'm Mimi (Miyoung) Take a moment to acknowledge you've taken the first step towards bettering your mental health because, let's be honest - starting therapy can be empowering, confusing, or scary, all at the same time. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore obstacles with concerns related to anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. I focus on helping clients develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share.
I truly love working with anyone regardless of age, culture, religion, and etc.. but I have found enjoying so much while I am working with middle age clients and espcially older adutls who are planning to retire or have retired and trying to find meaning and purpose in their new chapter. My clients feel lost a little bit but usually regain themselves quickly finding joy and new meaning in life. In our first session, we'll start with briefl introductions, then spending good time to know you as a whole person starting from the far past to the current. By doing so, you may pull out painful past memory. In the end, we will dive into the specific challenges you're facing. First session may take longer and heavier but this will help me tailed plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Having worked with diverse population in the past 13 years, I quickly build strong rapports with my clientes. My rich experience in different organizations including but not limited to community social service agency, healthcare system, and insurance health plan, have been helping me to guide and consult my clients when we identify barriers that impact on my client's wellbeing.
I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the past 13 years. It’s helped clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their emotional distress. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less depressed, anxious and stressed life.
In the past 3 years, I began incorporating Christian perspective with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as I had observed better treatment outcome. Clients find peace, let go pattern and pain, and find joy in life again by being able to see themselves and the world around them through Jesus's loving eyes. We can start seeing our setbacks and challenges as opportunity as long as you have faith in Him who is good and gracious.
I dedicate to empathetic and compassion focused counseling. I focus on increasing my clients' self-awareness and one's motivation for change, the transition from self-insights to change in action is more likely when Clients feel the therapist's compassion and care towards them. I am very dedicated to my individual client.
