Henry Smith
Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck? You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. I’m Henry Smith, LICSW, a licensed therapist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, relationship concerns, and major life transitions.
With over six years of experience in trauma-informed care, child welfare, crisis intervention, and behavioral health, I bring both compassion and clinical insight to my work.
I also bring extensive experience in crisis intervention and supporting individuals through periods of significant emotional distress. I provide evidence-based, culturally responsive virtual therapy tailored to your individual needs and goals. My approach is supportive, practical, and collaborative, helping you better understand patterns, develop effective coping skills, strengthen relationships, manage difficult emotions, and build resilience. Together, we’ll work toward meaningful change, greater confidence, and lasting emotional well-being.
First session
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve never been in therapy before. Our first session is an opportunity for me to learn more about you, what brings you to therapy, and what you would like to change or improve. We’ll discuss your current concerns, relevant experiences, strengths, relationships, and goals for treatment. I’ll also explain my approach, answer your questions, and make sure you understand what you can expect from our work together. By the end of the session, we’ll begin identifying treatment goals and practical next steps. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, respected, and with a clearer sense of direction for moving forward. Together, we'll identify your goals and begin developing a personalized treatment plan that fits your needs. I'll also explain my approach to therapy, answer any questions you have, and make sure you know what to expect moving forward. You don't have to have everything figured out before our first meeting. Just come as you are. My hope is that you'll leave feeling heard, supported, and with a clearer sense of direction and hope for what's ahead.
Strengths
I bring a calm, supportive, and practical approach to therapy, helping clients feel comfortable discussing difficult experiences without judgment. My background in outpatient therapy, crisis intervention, and behavioral health has strengthened my ability to help adults navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationship challenges, grief, and major life transitions. I combine evidence-based strategies with a collaborative and culturally responsive approach tailored to each client’s needs. My strength is helping clients move beyond simply talking about what is wrong to better understand patterns, develop effective coping skills, improve communication and relationships, and identify realistic steps toward meaningful change. I strive to create a space where clients feel heard, respected, challenged when appropriate, and supported as they work toward greater confidence and emotional well-being. I draw from evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®), to help clients better understand their thoughts and emotions, strengthen coping skills, improve relationships, and build lasting resilience. Rather than simply managing symptoms, we work together to identify the patterns keeping you stuck and develop practical strategies that support long-term growth. Clients often describe me as calm, genuine, and easy to talk to. I strive to create an environment where you feel heard, respected, and challenged in ways that promote confidence, self-awareness, and lasting change. Whether you're navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, or a difficult life transition, my goal is to help you move forward with greater clarity, resilience, and hope. I’m trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) approaches that help clients find clarity, balance, and renewed confidence. My clients often describe me as calm, grounding, and encouraging. I blend warmth with practical tools that foster resilience, emotional awareness, and meaningful change. Whether you’re working through trauma, relationship struggles, or life transitions, I’m here to help you rediscover your strength and create the lasting peace you deserve.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adults who may feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or disconnected and are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief, relationship concerns, self-esteem challenges, and major life transitions. I also have experience supporting adults with more complex behavioral health needs, including chronic suicidal ideation and histories of mental health crises. I work especially well with clients who want to better understand themselves, recognize patterns that may be affecting their well-being, and develop practical tools for managing difficult emotions and situations. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. We’ll work collaboratively at a pace that feels appropriate while focusing on meaningful, realistic goals.
Treatment methods
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help you move from feeling stuck to building real, lasting change. Together, we’ll focus on your strengths, what’s already working, and the small steps that can make a big difference. My goal is to help you recognize your own resilience, set meaningful goals, and create practical solutions that fit your life. SFBT empowers you to move forward with confidence and hope—because even small shifts can lead to powerful growth.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns and replace them with healthier, more empowering ways of thinking and coping. My approach is collaborative and practical—you’ll gain tools you can use every day to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and improve your overall well-being. CBT helps you take control of your story and create lasting, positive change.
Strength-Based
My strength-based approach focuses on what’s right with you—not just what’s wrong. We’ll identify your inner strengths, values, and past successes to help you face challenges with confidence. I believe every person has the capacity for growth and resilience, even in difficult seasons. By focusing on your abilities and potential, we’ll work together to build hope, restore balance, and empower you to create lasting, positive change in your life.
Trauma Informed Care
My trauma-informed approach creates a safe, supportive space for healing at your own pace. I understand how past experiences can shape how you think, feel, and relate to others. Together, we focus on safety, trust, and empowerment while building resilience and self-compassion. My goal is to help you reconnect with your sense of strength and hope, transforming survival into growth and confidence.
