My name is Haley and I'm a queer, harm-reduction focused, identity-affirming, and trauma-informed licensed professional counselor. I am passionate about helping those who feel stuck and in need of empathy and unconditional support. I love to learn, and I model this curiousity in getting to know you as well as helping you work towards your goals. It takes a lot of strength and bravery to begin the process of therapy, and I am so grateful that you're here. :) <3

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session will be what you'd like to make of it. We'll get to know each other as well as review what you would like to see change throughout your therapy journey. I believe what we tend to struggle with currently (for example, negative self talk, addiction, low self-esteem, depression, etc.) were once helpful for survival. When we have an understanding of why you are here, we can begin working towards self-compassion and positive change.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I'm basic trained in EMDR and have a clinical certificate in treating eating disorders from Rutgers. I have a background in community mental health, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient therapeutic care. I tend to use an integrative/eclectic approach in treatment, meaning that I pull from various therapeutic theories and methods that are deemed most appropriate for you. Some approaches I use often include, but are not limited to, humanistic, DBT, and feminist theory. Results may include a greater sense of self-worth, improvement in relationships (to yourself and others), as well as acquiring helpful tools to navigate life's various stressors.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve clients who are curious about who they are, why they do the things they do, how these behaviors serve a purpose in their life, and are possibly open to learning new ways of changing them in order to feel better. I am open to working with anyone, and I have lots of experience working with teens, young adults, and older adults. As an LGBTQ+ person, I also tend to work well with those in my community. <3

My treatment methods

EMDR

Everyone can benefit from EMDR - especially those who feel stuck in their past. I have basic training in this practice, so I may rely on professional scripts in the beginning of your treatment in order to ensure efficacy. I have experience with practicing EMDR with teens and adults with trauma.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have multiple years of experience implementing DBT in treatment. I especially emphasize the use of DBT for improving communication in relationships, learning how to set healthy boundaries, and improve the quality of the relationship(s). I also use this treatment method to teach effective coping strategies to improve emotion regulation, mindfulness, and distress tolerance.

Eclectic

I believe treatment is not one-size-fits-all, so I choose the therapeutic approach(es) that may be most helpful for your specific needs and goals. For example, I may use DBT, EMDR, compassion-focused, and/or harm-reduction strategies in helping someone recover from an eating disorder.

Feminist

There are a lot of things outside of our control, especially the ways in which systems of oppression impact our ability to be well. As a white clinician, I am, of course, prone to biases due to my privilege. I do my best in making sure you feel seen, heard, and safe in the therapeutic relationship. While I continue to educate myself on feminist topics (such as gender, race, class, ability, sexuality, etc.), I am always open to be challenged and to learn. I believe that I can learn from you as much as you may learn in the therapeutic relationship.

Strength-Based

We all have strengths (even if we have a hard time recognizing them). The best way to make change is to hone in on them. Because everyone is different, the ways in which I approach treatment is unique to the individual. I use creative ways to implement what you already know in achieving your treatment goals.
