About me

Welcome! My name is Kalyn and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Delaware, with a Master of Science in Human Development from Virginia Tech. I specialize in providing individual therapy for adults navigating relationship issues, communication challenges, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and personal boundaries. Utilizing my systemic therapy background, I help individual clients explore how their relational patterns and history impact their current well-being. My approach is collaborative, person-centered, and strengths-based. I blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), family systems therapy, and supportive therapy to create an open, non-judgmental space where you can freely explore your emotions and build practical tools for lasting change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

First sessions are all about getting to know each other in a low-pressure environment. We’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, examine your present stressors, explore your personal history, and identify your goals. I’ll also share how I structure individual therapy so you have a clear idea of what to expect moving forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I take a collaborative approach, recognizing that you are the expert in your own life and know yourself best. As a therapist, my primary strength lies in providing warm, empathetic support—helping you explore your strengths, break unhelpful patterns, and empowering you to face and triumph over life's obstacles with compassion, clarity, and practical guidance.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best suited for individual adults who are feeling stuck, lost, or overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, stress, emotional regulation, or relationship patterns. Many of my clients know they want change and have personal goals, but lack the practical tools to get there. Together, we will develop the strategies and skills necessary to navigate these personal and relational challenges, build healthy boundaries, and cultivate a life with greater balance.

My treatment methods

Supportive

In supportive therapy, the priority is establishing a secure, trusting therapeutic alliance. I focus on being an encouraging and validating guide by actively listening and normalizing your experiences. I also help you gain perspective, provide praise, teach practical coping skills, and work to reframe problems and set clear behavioral goals.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT highlights how our thoughts shape our feelings and actions. I work collaboratively with clients to identify the underlying unhelpful thought patterns fueling negative emotions and behaviors. By challenging these cognitive patterns, we can disrupt the negative cycle and create lasting positive change.

Strength-Based

I believe in a collaborative, positive counseling model centered on establishing a positive mindset. We will work together to clearly identify your existing strengths and use them as the foundation for building your best qualities, leading to greater resilience and personal growth.

I have seen many providers but never felt heard or comfortable speaking openly. It's been such aa tremendous relief having sessions with Kayln because she truly listens. She's present and responsive to my concerns and emotions so I feel at ease opening up for the first time in years.

We see Kalyn for couples counselling, and found her by chance. We think she is impressively neutral, never taking sides with one of us over the other. She is incredibly professional, insightful, and facilitates discussion and growth. She keeps our sessions positive. She is a great fit for anyone who's serious about improving their relationship.
