I’m a mental health professional with a deep and varied background in education, counseling, human services, and advocacy.
I believe therapy is about understanding the whole person, not just the problem that brought you in, and creating meaningful change that carries beyond the therapy room.
First session
Our first session is a chance to slow down, get oriented, and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. You don’t need to have the perfect words or a clear plan. I’ll help guide the conversation while giving you space to share at your own pace. We’ll talk about what you’re experiencing, what has been happening in your life, what you hope will be different, and what may be getting in the way. I’ll also share how I work and begin thinking with you about what direction therapy might take. We don’t have to figure everything out in one session, and there is no pressure to go deeper than you’re ready for. My goal is for you to leave with a better sense of what you need, where we might begin, and what working together could look like.
Strengths
I bring a grounded, curious, and direct presence to therapy. I listen closely to both what you say and what may be happening underneath it, while staying focused on what matters to you. I draw from different clinical approaches rather than forcing everyone into the same model, considering emotions, relationships, behavior, family, culture, and life circumstances as they fit your experience. I’m comfortable sitting with complexity, but I also believe therapy should go somewhere. We may explore patterns, challenge assumptions, build practical skills, practice difficult conversations, or simply slow down long enough to understand what is really happening. My goal is not just insight, but helping you make sense of your experience and use that understanding to move forward differently.
Ideal clients
I work best with individuals and families who are open to understanding themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that may be keeping them stuck, while also wanting therapy to lead somewhere practical. My clients may be navigating anxiety, stress, relationships, family dynamics, identity, major life transitions, or difficult experiences from the past. Some may feel stuck or overwhelmed, while others may simply know that something needs to change. You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin. Maybe you’re asking difficult questions about who you are, how you got here, what you want, or what needs to change. If you’re open to honest reflection, curious about growth, and willing to show up as you are, I’ll meet you there. We can slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and work together toward something that feels meaningful and possible.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients recognize connections between their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and reactions. We may identify patterns that are keeping someone stuck, examine assumptions or beliefs, and develop more effective ways of responding. I often pair this with practical strategies that clients can use outside of therapy.
Integrative
I use an integrative approach because I don’t believe one method works for every person or every situation. I draw from different therapeutic approaches based on the client’s needs, goals, relationships, and circumstances. This allows us to adjust the work as therapy develops rather than forcing the client into a specific model.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use solution focused strategies to help clients identify what they want to be different and recognize the strengths, resources, and experiences they already have available to them. We may explore exceptions to a problem, what has worked in the past, and small changes that can create movement. I use this approach when a client is looking for practical direction or wants to build on progress they have already made.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I use emotion focused strategies to help clients move beyond simply understanding what they think and connect with what they are actually feeling and needing. We may explore emotions that are difficult to express, patterns of protection or avoidance, and how emotions influence relationships and decisions. The goal is to develop greater emotional awareness and use that understanding to respond differently.
Trauma Informed Care
I use a trauma informed approach by considering how past experiences, adversity, relationships, and life circumstances may influence the way a person understands themselves and responds to the world around them. I do not assume that every difficulty is rooted in trauma. Instead, I work collaboratively with each client to understand what is relevant to their experience, while emphasizing safety, choice, strengths, and the client’s own understanding of what they need.
