Libby Meoli
I believe that everyone is doing their best at any given time and are motivated to be the best version of themselves possible, although that does not mean that we always know how to get there.
I also encourage an ecological systems approach to wellbeing, which highlights the importance of developing and utilizing supportive resources in all facets of life.
Having a therapeutic relationship with a trusted therapist can provide a safe place to process difficult emotions, help identify patterns of thinking and behavior that no longer serve us, or outline goals for the future and develop a plan of action.
First session
During our first session, the primary focus will be on gathering information to determine if my knowledge and experience make me a good fit for supporting your success and if you feel comfortable working with me. From there, sessions are much less formal with a focus on building trust and rapport in the therapeutic relationship and focusing on each client’s unique therapy goals. I find great value in talking about therapy in therapy, or having open and collaborative discussions about what is working in therapy and if any adjustments are needed. This also applies to transitioning out of or reducing the frequency of therapeutic work when the time is right.
Strengths
I believe in the importance of both the therapist and the client being active participants in the therapeutic relationship. My therapeutic interaction style is very conversational and I find value in providing honest, compassionate feedback. I feel honored to do this work and am continually in awe of the therapeutic journey and the power of human connection.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with clients across various stages of adulthood who are realizing that what has worked for them in the past is no longer serving them but they may not know where to begin in the process of change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) allows for increased awareness of how our thoughts, beliefs and interpretations create our reality and directly influence our emotional experiences and behaviors. Through the identification, exploration, and challenging of our thoughts and beliefs, we can change how we feel and show up in our daily life.
Trauma Informed Care
The use of a Trauma-Informed Approach allows me to acknowledge the impact of trauma and help foster a sense of safety through trust, collaboration, and empowerment.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have found the combined approach with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to be incredibly beneficial. Where CBT can allow us to adjust what is within our control, DBT allows us develop skills for accepting or learning to tolerate what is often beyond our control. DBT focuses on development of skills for managing emotions, coping with distress, and improving relationships.
