My name is Bonnie. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I've worked with a variety of clients in a variety of situations both inpatient and outpatient. I'm a good listener and believe that most people people know themselves better than anyone else. My job is to allow clients to explore all of their options in a safe, comfortable environment. I accept people where they are, not where others think they should be.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is a, "get to know you," time. I explain the process of therapy including confidentiality and may ask about the client's background. I will also invite clients to tell me what prompted them to come to therapy at this time. This is a time when clients can ask me anything. I always want clients to leave with something concrete they can utilize until we meet again.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have experienced all life has given me both the good and the bad. I've known trauma and loss both on a personal level and in the workplace. I've had poor relationships and am now am with the love of my life. I was a single parent and am the grandparent of 3 wonderful grandchildren. There a situation I can think of that I either have experienced myself or have been a party to. I also have a comfortable sense of humor.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with clients over 18. I work with clients with a variety of issues including, trauma and grief, stress and coping needs, mood disorders, and who struggle with effective communication. Of benefit to me are those clients who have a specific thought or behavior they want to explore. I don't do family therapy but can assist parents with improving their parenting skills. My strengths include being very open minded, sensitive, being a good listener and, being able to think outside the box.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Everyone has both strengths and weaknesses. I strive to enable clients to do more of what they are good at and less of what they are not.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

People worry excessively about what has already happened or what will happen. Mindfulness allows us to stay grounded in today and enables us to focus on what we may change rather than focusing on what we have no control over.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

We often have a vague idea of what we want to change and how to do that. This theory breaks that into realistic goals and steps as well as a specific time they will practice the step.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

All of our actions begin with a thought. CBT allows us to examine that thought and decide whether it is valid or not and what we want to do with that thought.

Eclectic

All clients are unique and have individual needs. I utilize tools to meet those needs and avoid, "cookie cutter," therapy.
