Hi, my name is Derek Price. I have been a licensed counselor for 10 years. Through those years of experience, I bring competency and comfort in working as a counselor. I love helping people and watching them grow through the process of therapy. I firmly believe we all have tools to grow, and we just need to find ways to tap into those resources.
First sessions are all about getting to know a new client. We start gathering information around what has happened in the past, what is currently leading to seeking help, and where you would like to go. The first session is like pulling the entertainment center off the wall and trying to organize where the cords are coming from and where they are going.
Along with experience working as a therapist, I also bring experiences with meditation and mindfulness to sessions to assist in slowing down.
Do you ever feel like your thoughts are constantly racing and there is no way to slow it down? Does it ever seem like you are filled with worries of things in life that could go wrong? Or perhaps you feel physical tension or racing heart throughout the day. We all face stress and anxiety at different times in our lives. Counseling provides a space for individuals to find new ways to navigate difficult thoughts and feelings. We can find ways to slow down the thoughts, relieve physical symptoms of anxiety, and have hope for the future.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
ACT is useful in finding thoughts and feelings in which we get stuck. It helps to explore mental flexibility and ways to become "unstuck." Through mindfulness practices and acceptance of the now we can often create a little more space to feel contentment.

While we ended up deciding that a different provider would better suit my goals, Derek was always very easy to talk to, even about the hard stuff. Compassionate, positive, and caring, and wasn’t afraid to laugh when I was trying to be funny. I very much appreciated that as I use humor to feel comfortable in various spaces. It can be weird, as someone who is new to therapy, to tell a stranger your deepest troubles but it didn’t ever feel that way as he fosters a comfortable experience.

Derek is a thoughtful listener and offers helpful insights. He presents solutions that feel actionable without being forceful or judgmental. Very easy to talk to and open minded.
