LPC, 10 years of experience
My name is Boisey Bristo, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, Certified Brain Injury Specialist, and Somatic EMDR practitioner based in Ft. Worth, Texas, offering statewide services via telehealth. I work with teens and adults, focusing on anxiety disorders, mood disorders, stress and adjustment issues, trauma, cultural and diversity concerns, and brain injuries. My counseling philosophy is: “Life is meant to be experienced, not controlled.” Most of my clients struggle with anxiety and depression, but I’ve also supported individuals dealing with eating disorders, personality disorders, autism, and substance abuse or addiction. I aim to help clients achieve wellness by embracing both acceptance and change.
In our first session, we’ll focus on building a strong connection and establishing a solid therapeutic relationship. Effective therapy thrives on mutual trust and a sense of safety, where the therapist and client work together in an open and supportive partnership.
My path to becoming a therapist is deeply personal. As an African American, I feel I have a unique perspective on the generational trauma many Black Americans face due to systemic oppression. I lost my stepfather to a drug overdose, and two of my close friends have been diagnosed with PTSD and schizophrenia. Representation is important, and I truly believe that being a therapist is my calling and a way to give back to my community. At the same time, I’m open to supporting anyone who needs guidance and care.
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated and open to engaging in treatment. They often show the ability to reflect on their experiences and a readiness to challenge their beliefs.
DBT combines cognitive behavioral therapy with mindfulness techniques. I tailor this method to match each person’s individual needs and have found it particularly effective for managing anxiety and intrusive thoughts.
CBT forms the core of my practice. It works on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and by reframing thoughts, we can bring about changes in emotional and behavioral experiences. This approach requires clients to have self-reflective abilities and is particularly effective in addressing depression and anxiety.
Mindfulness is about being fully aware of the present moment and intentionally focusing on your physical, emotional, and mental experiences. I use mindfulness to guide clients in practicing self-compassion, encouraging them to observe their behaviors with curiosity rather than judgment. It helps strengthen the mind-body connection and can be a powerful tool for managing depression and anxiety.
Somatic EMDR combines body-centered therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing to address both psychological and physical dimensions of trauma. This integrated approach offers a holistic pathway to healing by acknowledging the interplay between mind and body in trauma recovery.
