LCSW, 14 years of experience
My name is Traci Abernethy. I have been a therapist for 14 years. My background is in Mental health as well as Substance abuse and dual-diagnosis. I have helped many improved their mental health and restore confidence. I graduated with a Bachelors of Social Work in 2010 at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and with a Masters of Social in 2011 from the Joint Masters of Social program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
You are so brave for taking on this journey! It takes a lot of guts to look yourself in the mirror and recognize that you need help solving some of life’s hardest problems. The first session consists of a clinical evaluation, which will allow me to gather background information about you.
I crown myself for being easy to talk to and I have a way of making my clients feel comfortable. I have a way with problem solving and I offer multiple perspectives which is helpful in catering to each person’s unique problems. Everyone has a unique life experience so I don’t offer everyone the same solutions.
My ideal client is open-minded and hopeful for change. My ideal client recognizes that positive change can happen and that it starts with them.
I utilize CBT to assist my clients in becoming more mindful and aware of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors and how they all influence each other. Using CBT, we recognize that we can change how we feel, what we think and what we do.
I assist clients by increasing awareness of their thoughts, feelings and behavior so that they can self-regulate their emotions in the moment.
This modality is used to assist clients in reaching short-term goals that will also influence long-term progress.
I asssist clients with trauma to identify their stuck points and to challenge inaccurate thoughts related to their own PTSD. This method is helpful in decreasing PTSD symptoms.
