New to Grow
I am a licensed psychologist who works with adults of all ages, with specialty in treating young adults. My clinical focuses include anxiety, depression, life transitions, emerging adulthood, college-related concerns, substance use, relationship and identity concerns, and caregiver stress. My goal is to tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs, using a supportive and collaborative approach that is grounded in evidence-based practices.
Our first session together will be very different from our ongoing sessions. In the first session I will be asking a lot of questions - questions about your current concerns, your personal history, your family and relationships, and more. My goal is to get a fuller picture of your life and how you exist within it. At the end of our first session, I will collaborate with you to set a primary focus for therapy, and outline some tentative goals for treatment. We will also discuss the therapist-client match - I acknowledge that I will not be the "right" fit for every client, and that's okay! If I am not the right therapist for you, I will help you in determining what you are looking for in a therapist to find a better fit.
I try to find something I relate to in every person I meet. In a world where our differences are often highlighted and divisive, I strive to find the connection and commonality that ties us all together as humans. It can be something as simple as being pet owners, to something as complicated as growing up with divorced parents. The things that we have in common allow us to better relate to each other, and in that, we foster empathy and caring. I also tend to bring humor into my therapy work when appropriate - I believe that laughter is indeed a medicine, and I hope we can laugh together!
I enjoy working with clients who may feel like they don't know where to start. Life sometimes feels like a tangled mess, and it can be difficult to determine the "what, why, who, when, and where" that brought you to feeling that way. It is my pleasure to work with clients to start untangling those threads, and to find ways to re-weave those threads into a "tapestry of living" that makes sense to them.
I utilize CBT to help clients create more adaptive thought processes and break behavioral patterns that keep them in distress.
I utilize MI to assist clients in finding their internal inspiration to change or stay the same.
I utilize this method to help clients gain insight into their internal, unspoken processes. This insight helps clients to better understand their interpersonal functioning.
