Jennifer Rando
đ Hi, Iâm Jen! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Music Therapist. I work with teens and adults who are dealing with anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, eating disorders, or just that nagging feeling that life shouldnât feel this hard. My sessions are relaxed, collaborative, and human. You wonât find therapy jargon or long awkward silences here (unless you need a second to think... then weâll embrace it). My approach blends evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, and music therapy. Sometimes that means diving into tough conversations, sometimes it means finding small ways to breathe again. I meet you where you are and help you get unstuck: one honest, real moment at a time.
Those experiences taught me that healing rarely looks perfect, and that progress often starts with showing up, even when you donât feel ready.
Before private practice, I worked at the Childrenâs Hospital of Philadelphia providing individual and group therapy for adolescents with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma. I also supported patients and families on the Oncology, Behavioral Health, PICU, and NICU units, and those navigating grief and loss. Those experiences taught me that healing rarely looks perfect, and that progress often starts with showing up, even when you donât feel ready. My goal is simple: to help you make sense of whatâs going on and find a little more ease in the middle of it all. Whether youâre ready to talk, vent, process, or just exist in the moment â Iâve got you.
First session
First sessions can feel a little nerve-wracking, and thatâs completely normal. You donât have to come in with the perfect words, a list of goals, or a rehearsed story. Iâll guide the conversation so you donât have to worry about what to say. In our first meeting, weâll keep things laid back and conversational. Iâll ask some questions to get to know you, like whatâs been going on, whatâs bringing you to therapy now, and what youâre hoping might feel different. Weâll talk about your history at a pace that feels comfortable for you. If something feels too heavy or youâre not ready to go there yet, thatâs okay. You get to set the tone. Iâll also share a bit about how I work, answer any questions you have, and together weâll decide what makes sense moving forward. That could be setting some goals, exploring specific challenges, or just getting comfortable in the process. My goal for the first session is simple: to make sure you leave feeling heard, supported, and a little more hopeful that change is possible. You donât need to prepare or perform... just show up as you are. Weâll take it from there. đ
Strengths
My approach is flexible, collaborative, and tailored to you (no cookie-cutter therapy here!) I mix evidence-based methods like CBT, DBT, and ACT with music therapy and creative tools to help clients untangle thoughts, manage emotions, and actually feel a little lighter. âResultsâ donât mean overnight perfection. Usually it looks like noticing patterns, handling life a bit more easily, or finally laughing at the little stuff that used to drive you nuts. My goal? To create a space where you feel seen, supported, and capable of tackling the hard stuff without it feeling impossible.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready, even if a little hesitant, to better understand themselves and create meaningful change in their life. They may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stuck in patterns of overthinking, navigating depression, or carrying the weight of past experiences that still show up in the present. They might be highly self-aware yet struggle to translate that insight into action, or they may feel disconnected from themselves and unsure where to begin. I work well with adolescents and adults who are open to exploring the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and who are willing to practice new skills both in and outside of session. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, perfectionism, or a desire to feel more grounded and in control of their internal world. They donât need to have everything figured out, just a willingness to show up and engage in the process. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and practical. I integrate evidence-based techniques with creativity, helping clients not only understand why they feel the way they do, but also what to do about it. I aim to create a space where clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to make changes at their own pace. I currently work with clients ages 10 and older, as my practice is fully virtual.
Origin story
Becoming a therapist wasnât necessarily my first plan, but I quickly discovered that it brought together so many things that come naturally to me. Iâve always been a creative problem solver, and I genuinely enjoy connecting with all kinds of people. At the end of the day, weâre all human, and I think there is something incredibly valuable about being able to meet people where they are without judgment. Iâm also fascinated by understanding why we do the things we do. Helping clients recognize where certain thoughts, behaviors, or patterns may come from can make their experiences feel much less confusing. From there, we can figure out what actually works for them. I donât believe meaningful change usually happens overnight. I enjoy helping people find realistic, sustainable ways to make incremental changes that add up over time. Being able to combine curiosity, creativity, human connection, and problem solving in a way that genuinely improves someoneâs life has made this work incredibly rewarding. And, as it turns out, Iâm pretty good at it đ
