About me

Hello! My name is Avis Edwards, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who are facing a range of mental health and co-occurring disorders. I provide culturally sensitive individual therapy and strive to create a supportive, compassionate environment where clients feel heard, empowered, and equipped to work toward healing and personal growth.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Clients can expect a warm, supportive, and judgment-free space during their first session. We’ll discuss what brings them to therapy, explore their goals, and review any history that helps guide treatment. By the end of the session, clients will have clearer goals, a better understanding of my therapeutic approach, and a sense of the next steps. My aim is to create a calm, collaborative environment where clients feel safe, heard, and empowered from the very beginning.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I use a variety of treatment modalities to include but not limited to CBT, Crisis intervention, Family Systems Approach, Solution-focused, and Motivational Interviewing. I have experience in treating the following: anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, anger management, phase of life issues, women issues, social skills, grief, stress, and substance abuse.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone who is ready to begin the process of healing, growth, and self-discovery. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, behavioral challenges, or difficulty coping with everyday responsibilities. They are seeking a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where they can explore their thoughts and emotions, develop healthier coping skills, improve relationships, and work toward meaningful, lasting change in their lives.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a person-centered approach by creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, valued, and understood. I believe each person has the capacity for growth and healing, and my role is to walk alongside them as they explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Through empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, I help clients build self-awareness, strengthen confidence, and move toward meaningful change.
