New to Grow
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, clinical supervisor, and psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience helping individuals navigate trauma, emotional distress, and life transitions. My career has included work in schools, outpatient counseling centers, and hospital settings, where I supported individuals facing mood disorders, addiction, and psychosis. I’ve worked with clients across the lifespan—from young children to older adults—and bring a broad, real-world perspective to my practice. As a certified trainer in trauma-informed care, I use practical, effective tools to help you better understand your emotional responses, regulate stress, and feel more grounded. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your specific needs. I draw from a range of therapeutic techniques to help you gain insight, shift patterns, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence. Clients often tell me that our work together helps them feel less overwhelmed, more self-aware, and better able to cope with life’s challenges. I strive to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and comfortable being yourself. Some of the feedback that I received from clients are: "You give me a perspective so I don’t get stuck and I realize I don’t have to solve it all at once.” "You have forever affected how I look at things in a positive way" "You changed how I look at things. I know I can do it, so I achieve it. The re-parenting thing gives me a way to understand people and myself." "You help people be comfortable in their own skin."
The initial sessions focus on getting to know you—your experiences, goals, and the areas of your life you’d like to change or improve. I use a range of therapeutic modalities, each selected and tailored to meet your unique needs. Clients choose to work with me for many different reasons. Some engage in therapy for several months to address a specific concern, while others continue our work together for years as part of their ongoing growth and well-being. The pace and duration of therapy are entirely up to you. A recent client who re-engaged in therapy shared the following reflection: "I have been a patient of Allison's for over a year. I was nervous about getting back into therapy, but Allison made me feel at ease immediately. She has a kind, empathetic, and effective way of listening and guiding. We discuss trauma, family issues, relationships, and self-esteem. I look forward to seeing her weekly and highly recommend Allison—she has truly changed my life for the better."
The theoretical framework I use is centered in mindfulness and stress reduction strategies. I also use CBT, DBT, ACT and other evidence-based practices in my work. Learning new ways to engage in self-care and self-compassion are key. My primary focus is ALWAYS on helping my clients feel happier and lighter. My aim is to listen well, be fully present and to offer guidance and support. I feel honored to be part of each person’s journey and grateful to be able to help them move toward a more meaningful life. Articles I have authored to support my clients are: Embracing the Child Within and Mindful Parenting
I enjoy working with a variety of diverse populations and am eclectic in my approach. I tend to be especially drawn to fertility and parenting challenges. Women's issues are a big interest, but I also enjoy working with men and people who identify themselves as non-binary. I find joy when working with people who want to improve the quality of their relationships and are more relational in approach.
