As a licensed clinical social worker, I am committed to collecting evidenced based "tools for my toolbox" to aid those grappling with finding the new normal after their world has shifted. I most love helping people find language to describe their losses, often when there has been difficulty finding the words, inspiring people to find hope again, and facilitate the development of a plan to move forward in a way that both honors their experiences and embraces the future. I take an action-oriented, collaborative approach to therapy. I utilize a combination of psychoeducation, storytelling, and evidenced-based interventions to offer meaningful insight to support clients’ healing. I strongly believe that rock bottom is the foundation upon which we can rebuild our lives. We do regular check-ins to review progress along the way. Our goal is not to change the past, but instead to find some relief from symptoms that impact daily functioning. I will solicit feedback regularly during sessions for takeaways to gauge progress and curate treatment interventions based on what is most engaging and productive for the individual client.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first intake session, clients can expect to learn about expectations from therapy, my background. I will ask you more about your goals, and we will discuss a tentative plan of how we will move forward. We will focus on making progress while moving at a comfortable pace for you. Once reviewing your goals or learning more about your situation during intake, if for any reason I feel like you may benefit from different therapist skillsets, I will review my professional recommendations with you and discuss any questions you may have so you can feel confident and make an informed decision regarding your chosen next steps. Our time together will feel like a two-way conversation, where you will learn new skills and gain insight better understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You can expect a collaborative experience that offers you tools to walk away with. FOR COUPLES: For couples seeking an intake appointment/consultation, we will explore what each partner's goals, needs, and barriers are in the relationship and what each are wanting from couples counseling. We will review the situation and determine if couples counseling is appropriate. Depending on the dynamic, it may feel like one person is "talking more," however, bear in mind, this intake is intended for me to gather information. The more thoroughly you complete your intake forms with all relevant information from both parties for me to review prior to the session, the deeper and more productive this first meeting will be. Be aware that couples therapy is contraindicated when there are severe safety risks, unmanaged addictions, severe mental health issues, or abuse involved. In these instances, referrals will be made to appropriate settings. Often, people are seeking couples counseling for situations that may be more appropriate for individual counseling for one or both parties, couples' education such as a workshop, or couples coaching may be more appropriate based on your needs. At the end of our intake, I will make professional recommendations of how I feel I could help you and suggest any appropriate referrals.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I specialize in grief and loss, situational anxiety, and attachment. I have worked with a variety of populations in my social work roles including expecting mothers, parenting education, homelessness, veterans, substance use, crisis intervention, child welfare, trauma, and geriatrics. Due to the diversity in my work and grief being the universal experience, I have completed extensive continuing education coursework to build, strengthen, and expand skills and continue to grow my toolbox to support clients. I am an educator and learner at heart. I have frequently been told in many environments that I bring "Big 5th Grade Teacher Energy" to a room. I pair this with the core social work tenet of bringing resources and referrals to clients. In our work, this will often look like you discussing a situation or dynamic, your symptoms, and how they are impacting you. We will explore further in conversation, and I will integrate learning into a natural discussion in a way that meets your needs or preferences. I will then often share with you further resources such as worksheets, videos, or audiobook recommendations that will allow you to continue to learn more between sessions should you desire to do so. I curate sessions based on your needs and preferences. Feedback I have noticed in client reviews over the years often reflects this when at times clients have described me very differently based on what was important to them. (This always makes me happy to know!) I get creative to meet my clients where they are integrating their interests into our work to help them better understand concepts. I am always learning by reading and continuing my education to expand my toolbox.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are people who have these traits in common: A desire to learn, an ability to reflect, and motivation to improve how they feel and change behaviors when warranted to meet their goals to improve the quality of their lives.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to support clients in challenging their thoughts and gaining tools to use independently long after sessions end.

Attachment-based

Founded in attachment theory, along with Circle of Security, Trust-Based Relational Intervention, and Gottman, I use attachment-based therapy to help build, support, and guide people through better understanding relationship dynamics of all types including romantic relationships and familial relationships between parents/caregivers and children.

Grief Therapy

I support clients processes a variety of losses, both traditional and non-death related, by viewing through a lens of grief and trauma. This allows space to find the language for feelings at times when it's often had to find the words to express feelings associated with difficult experiences.
