About me

My name is Leah & I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) experienced in & passionate about walking with others through difficult spaces & places in life. I have my Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Dallas Baptist University, with additional training in working with trauma, identity, & other life issues. I love to incorporate expressive arts techniques, addressing thoughts (CBT), and a mixture of other modalities to best help serve you as an individual. I am a Christian counselor and approach therapy from this perspective; I am also honoring to people of various religious backgrounds & will meet you where you are.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, after briefly going over logistics & any questions you may have about therapy, my primary goal is to get to know you & understand what brings you to therapy. For adolescents I usually spend additional time building relationship to get to know them better & create a safe environment. In therapy I want you to feel cared for and help you grow. We will go over your primary presenting problems and goals for therapy in the session, which will help us to create a unique plan moving forward. I also want to give you hope in your first session and some practical first steps to take before ending our first session.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

With my background I have value for each individual client I see & want to build a positive & caring therapeutic relationship where you are safe to grow to your full potential & your specific unique goals. Building a caring relationship with you is one of my strengths. Additionally identifying root thoughts & beliefs about oneself to begin to heal, change & grow is something I have extensive experience in.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with both teens & adults in navigating life issues from their past & present. Whether it is trauma, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, or other topics, we can evaluate your thoughts, emotions, & belief systems to help you heal, grow, & move forward in your life. Life is incredibly hard & painful at times & so it is an honor to help you navigate the storms. I have multiple years of working in adoption/foster care, specifically working with minors who have been through trauma & other serious life issues. I additionally have worked for the state in helping those who have been through trauma. I have been trained in EMDR and Trauma Focused cognitive Behavioral Therapy. For the past few years I have been working in private practice walking with individual clients of all ages and backgrounds.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I practice from an eclectic modality including aspects from person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, existential therapy, and other counseling practiced. This allows me to best serve each client on an individual prescriptive basis instead of a cookie cutter, one size fits all, approach.
