Hello, I'm Deedra Ivie. My goal is to help you find the strength that is already inside of you and bring that to light. Each client is different and has needs unique to their upbringing and life circumstances. I enjoy learning about your past circumstances, ways of thinking, and current situation to find the best way to move forward to achieve progress and find peace.
In our first session, you will have a place to express what you are wanting out of therapy. You can discuss your goals and needs. A brief history of your life is helpful for me to have an idea of what has impacted you. We will review your history and your goals to develop a plan for future sessions. If you have current crisis we can use the first session just to talk about that instead of goal planning and a history. The therapy room is here for you to help you grow and find peace.
I have been working with kids and adults in social services and therapy for 20 years. I come to the therapy room with a warm and understanding approach to all clients. This is your opportunity to have someone listen and really try to understand what you are going through and really be there for you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with most clients suffering from depression and anxiety. Together, we work to identify the exact feelings you are experiencing and the thoughts behind those feelings. Once we pinpoint the issues prompting your emotions, we work to change those thoughts. We also discuss coping skills to help you find relief in the midst of intense emotions.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
If you are experiencing more extreme emotions, I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). With DBT, I guide you through the stages of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Starting with distress tolerance and mindfulness can provide some immediate relief from your symptoms. From there, we work on recognizing and regulating your emotions. Interpersonal effectiveness helps you learn how to relate to others in your life in a healthier way.
EMDR
For trauma, I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This has been helpful to take away the extreme emotions you feel when you are triggered. Many times trauma gets stuck in the processing part of your brain. You just need some help moving that to the storage part of your brain. EMDR is able to help you move the trauma and find more peace. This has helped many people with nightmares, triggers and flashbacks.
