About me

Hello there! I am Cody, and I have been practicing therapy for about 8 years. I have worked in a wide variety of settings- community mental health, private practice, schools, and jails. No matter the background of my clients, one thing unites them all- a desire to be understood. I like to tailor the therapy I provide to meet clients right where they are and hopefully be one person they can rely on to always understand their perspective.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is always about two things- connecting and planning. Yes, I will ask a bunch of questions about your history, but I want to know you and find common ground to help our time together feel more collaborative. But more importantly, we'll discuss why you're here and work together to figure out how to turn your desire for something better into measurable goals. Along the way, you could also expect a lot of dad jokes, some pop culture references, and music and book recommendations, if that's your jam.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As someone who likes to be adaptable, I use multiple different techniques in therapy, but there are two approaches that make up the core of what I do: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Strengths-Based therapy. First and foremost, I believe that we are what we think, so let's find a way to focus on the thoughts that help us. But I also recognize that maybe some techniques like journaling are highly ineffective for someone who hates writing, so let's work together to find something you're great at and make it therapeutic!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love to work with clients that want to learn about themselves and make changes by trying different things out. You don't have to know where to start. Just show up with an open mind and a desire to grow, and we'll find the changes together.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I like to use an approach that is tailored to the needs of each individual, so each person I work with can receive a form of mixed therapy that suits their personality, learning style, and worldview. I focus a lot on Cognitive Behavioral interventions because I strongly believe that being intentional about what we think and how we act goes a long way towards improving our quality of life. I use multiple other approaches, though, to build on this foundation, including Dialectical Behavioral therapy, Reality therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Solution Focused therapy, and Emotionally Focused therapy, to name a few.
