I am a licensed, nationally certified counselor with 13 years of experience in the mental health field. My strongest desire is to support the unburdening of people from external & internal barriers and foster liberation through one being their truest Self. I have worked in various environments gaining experience in building healthy self and relational attunement, group facilitation, systems work, and generational healing. My therapeutic lens centers on social justice; focusing on vulnerable people groups and those in recovery from abusive, repressive experiences.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, clients can expect collaboration in creating a unique plan of care, building rapport, and establishing a healthy foundation of the therapeutic relationship. I welcome any and all questions! My mantra, especially during the first session, is: "Safety is earned, and security is built."

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Areas of specialty include: Perinatal Mental Health (e.g. loss, postpartum) Recovery & Wellness for Activists/Community Leaders Collective/Group-based Trauma Coercive Control Recovery (e.g. Spiritual/Religious Trauma) Intergenerational Conflict & Trauma Racial Trauma & Microaggressions LGBTQIA+ Life Transition/Values Clarification Additionally, I am considered to be "Christian+," having gone through a reconstructive/decolonized process. I have had the immense pleasure to sit and converse with members of all faith communities & belief structures. I actively advocate for civil, economic, and educational rights for all people, despite the demographic to which they belong. I also desire to assist others in uprooting "the colonized mind," which is often manifested in one's spiritual practices.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am not a “tough love” therapist at my core; I am relational, warm, and nurturing. Some read this and think it is “enabling” and “soft” but this approach has been necessary and impactful for those who have no other space to experience compassion. In my work with specific identities (e.g., Black women/femmes), I recognize that we are accustomed to having “meanness in our medicine.” I seek to challenge that by experimenting with kindness, encouragement, and safety.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is an exploratory and insight-oriented form of therapy, which focuses on the role of unconscious processes as they are manifested in our present-day actions. (For example, the way we show up in our relationships with our children is connected to how we were parented.) The goals of this therapy include working through unresolved conflict by gaining a new understanding of the Self, making the unconscious, conscious, and developing new healthier patterns.

Somatic

Intentionally bringing your body into the room, strengthening body awareness and grounding skills is a great addition to other forms of therapeutic processing. From matching sensations with emotions, to breath work and strengthening the body-mind connection, regular integration of somatic interventions is a growing area of competency.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I seek to emphasize understanding a client's background, ethnicity, and belief system; accommodating and respecting the differences in practices, traditions, values, and opinions of different cultures, and integrating those differences into therapeutic treatment. This is especially tailored to those with intersectional identities (e.g. Black/BIPOC, LGTBQIA+, Trans, Nonbinary, Polyamorous, Neurodiverse) and includes systemic/structural barriers.
