In my 33 years of working in the field of mental health treatment, I am humbled everyday over the resiliency of the human spirit. In doing so, I have grown as a therapist, with 24 years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, that has provided psychotherapy for all ages, crisis work, inpatient and outpatient treatment; treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, it is expected that a therapeutic contact will be developed between myself and the client. In that contract, confidentiality will be defined, identification of what the client’s issue or current struggle they are bringing to work on, history of client functioning, and defining of what the client expectations are to be with therapy. Any questions that the client has about my training and/or work experience can be briefly addressed. Parameters of the therapeutic relationship and treatment modality will be defined.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

In the many years of functioning as a helper, I have learned that flexibility in meeting clients from where they are coming from is most important. I recognize that the only constant in our existence is change and therefore it is important to accept that positive growth/change is possible with a healthy approach in place. I know I can help clients gain that healthy approach.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I prefer helping clients develop healthy coping skills/patterns that will allow them to thrive. I have extensive training and experience working with clients trying to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I use this approach to assist with working through many anxiety based issues, from performance anxiety to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used this approach in helping clients with changing their thinking and behavior to effectively put in place healthy coping skills and stress management techniques.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I use this approach to assist clients with tapping into their strengths and past successes in dealing with challenges/stressors and quickly apply that to managing current stressors/challenges. I find that adding a strengths based focus to this approach to be most effective.

Trauma Informed Care

I use this approach in helping clients with an understanding that we have all experienced traumas in our lives, have developed patterns of thinking and behavior that may have been self destructive, while other patterns were helpful. I encourage the client to tap into there healthy patterns and build upon them to help them work through new challenges.

Psychodynamic

I use this approach in allowing the client to explore their history of development, patterns of functioning, relationships they have engaged in, coping styles they have formed, perceptions of their world, and struggles they have encountered, while developing an understanding of who they’ve become and engaging those to develop healthy patterns of functioning.
