Hi! I’m JaShonda Atkins, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Louisiana and Colorado and the owner of Live Out Loud Counseling and Consulting. I earned my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Louisiana Tech University and have been in the mental health field for 10 years. My approach is goal-oriented and person-centered, focusing on helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Using evidence-based techniques, I provide a supportive space—both in-person and via telehealth—where clients can heal, build resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session with me, you can expect a welcoming and supportive environment where we begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. We’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any concerns you have. I’ll ask questions about your background, mental health history, and current challenges to gain a comprehensive understanding of your needs. This session also allows me to develop a detailed, personalized plan tailored to you, which we will work through in follow-up sessions. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and get a clear idea of what to expect as we move forward in your healing journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider are my ability to create a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard and valued, my goal-oriented and person-centered approach, and my ability to tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs. I find joy in empowering and pouring into my clients, helping them recognize their strengths and develop the confidence to navigate life’s challenges. I balance structure with flexibility, providing both practical coping strategies and the deeper emotional work necessary for long-term growth. With 10 years in the mental health field, I bring a strong foundation of clinical expertise while maintaining a compassionate, down-to-earth style that helps clients feel comfortable and empowered in their journey.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with individuals who are ready to explore their strengths and take meaningful steps toward personal growth. I am best positioned to serve adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions, especially those who appreciate a structured yet supportive approach. My ideal clients are motivated to develop healthier coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and build self-confidence. Whether navigating relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, or major life changes, I provide a safe and collaborative space where clients can heal, grow, and move forward with resilience.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize and change negative thought patterns that impact their emotions and behaviors. Through techniques like cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and psychoeducation, I guide clients in developing healthier coping strategies for managing anxiety, depression, and other challenges. I incorporate practical exercises and homework assignments to reinforce progress and ensure skills are applied in daily life.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use Person-Centered Therapy to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to explore their thoughts and emotions. By emphasizing unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness, I help clients gain self-awareness and confidence in their ability to make meaningful changes. Rather than directing the conversation, I allow clients to lead, fostering self-discovery and personal growth. My role is to provide guidance and reflection while respecting each client’s unique experiences and pace in therapy.

Eclectic

I take an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring my methods to fit each client’s unique needs rather than adhering to a single modality. By integrating techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and other evidence-based approaches, I create a flexible and individualized treatment plan. This allows me to adapt interventions based on the client’s goals, whether they need structured skill-building, emotional support, or deeper self-exploration. My focus is on meeting clients where they are, using the most effective strategies to promote growth, resilience, and meaningful change.

Strength-Based

I use a Strengths-Based approach to empower clients by focusing on their existing abilities, resilience, and resources to navigate challenges. Rather than centering on deficits or problems, I help clients identify and build upon their strengths to foster confidence, self-efficacy, and personal growth. By highlighting past successes and innate capabilities, I support clients in developing solutions and achieving their goals in a way that feels authentic and sustainable to them.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help clients process and heal from traumatic experiences in a structured and supportive way. This evidence-based approach combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-sensitive interventions to reduce distressing symptoms, improve coping skills, and build resilience. I guide clients through psychoeducation, emotional regulation strategies, cognitive restructuring, and gradual exposure to trauma-related memories, all while providing a safe and validating space. My goal is to help clients develop healthier thought patterns, regain a sense of control, and move forward with increased emotional strength and stability.
