Welcome to Therapy with Theron, where the priority is compassion over empathy to support individuals, couples, and youth facing life’s challenges. Whether you are struggling with mental health concerns, substance misuse, or intimate partner violence, I am here to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for healing. My goal is to partner with you as we explore the cultural, environmental, and experiential factors contributing to your challenges, offering insight, support, and therapeutic intervention along the way. With 25 years of experience working with both youth and adults, I bring a unique blend of clinical expertise and passion.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first priority for me as a clinician in the therapeutic process is in the setting of the tone for a conducive therapeutic environment ; establishing safety, both physically (where applicable) and emotionally. A safe space is one where the client feels heard, accepted, and free from judgment. Given the client's history of their own unique experiences, the therapist must be particularly sensitive to any signs of defensiveness or discomfort. Active listening, validation, and reassurance are critical in helping the client feel that they are not alone and that their experience matters. Emotional Safety: As an experienced clinician I strive to be a therapist that communicates openness and non-judgment from the outset. This is established by expressing a willingness to understand the client's journey without rushing to fix things. Phrases like, "I'm here to listen and support you at your pace," can help establish trust.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Empathy in conjunction with compassion Given a client's complex history, that may include trauma and depression, my approach is empathetic. my goal is to offer genuine concern and respect for the client's well-being .can be powerful, however I believe that what separates me as a therapist is my compassion. While empathy identifies, compassion comes along side of and parters with the client at their point of need. A compassionate approach allows the client to feel they are seen as a whole person, rather than defined by their struggles.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Although I consider myself a well-rounded clinician, I am particularly passionate about working with youth, helping them navigate the pressures of adolescence and the transition to adulthood. I also have a strong focus on supporting adults in changing the narratives of their lives, empowering them to create the future they desire. Compassion over empathy means offering understanding and support without judgment, recognizing that each person’s experience is unique. Rather than simply feeling someone’s pain, compassion allows us to meet them where they are and walk alongside them in a way that fosters healing, growth and aids in the development of tools that foster self sufficiency.
