Greetings! My name is Kalyn Brumbley, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I earned my Master's degree from Valdosta State University and have been in practice for five years. My expertise lies in supporting women as they navigate both acute and complex trauma, along with challenges such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relational health, and life transitions. I also have experience working working with men and adolescents navigating various issues. I offer individual, couple, and family sessions.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our initial session, we will address any questions or concerns you may have, while also providing an overview of the therapy process. We will conduct a formal intake assessment, during which I will ask about your history, current challenges, and future aspirations. This will assist us in determining whether we are a good match and will serve as a guide for our upcoming therapy sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I chose to become a therapist due to my passion for helping others. I consider my strengths to be compassion, adaptability, and dedication to my clients. As a lifelong learner, I am constantly enthusiastic about participating in new training sessions, reading, and engaging with educational programs, which enhances my ability to work effectively with those I serve.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I truly enjoy collaborating with women who are eager to discover the tools necessary to manage their emotions, relationships, and future paths. Many of my clients often experience feelings of being stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed, having prioritized the needs of others over their own. Therapy offers them a safe space to reflect on themselves, explore their pasts, identify their needs, and cultivate resources that empower their futures.

My treatment methods

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I have completed several CEUs focused on implementation of IFS in therapy, as well as explored the method within the context of graduate school. I apply the method in practice by working with clients to identify internal parts, increase awareness, foster compassion for parts, identify part needs, and develop connection between parts to reduce internal distress.

EMDR

I have completed EMDR basic training and often utilize this method in sessions to address a variety of presenting problems, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. EMDR is a structured approach and follows an 8-phase process, consisting of history taking, preparation, assessment, desensitization, installation, body scan, closure, and continual reevaluation. This method can assist with reducing emotional charge or intensity of traumatic memories and shift negative thought patterns.

Narrative

In my therapy training, I learned and adopted many of the aspects of Narrative Therapy that I incorporate with clients. This method helps clients to reshape their personal stories in ways to promote constructing healthier meanings in their lives through the way they tell and believe the stories about themselves. Narrative therapy externalizes problems, explores alternative stories , reauthors life stories, and incorporates others through witnessing and reinforcement.

Supportive

Supportive therapy is just like how it sounds. This method is focused on highlighting emotional support, encouragement, and enhancing resilience. This method assists with building a strong therapeutic relationship necessary for effective therapy.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I am currently in the process of obtaining my DBT certification. Within my practice, I highlight use of DBT skills training. DBT is used to help clients regulate emotions, improve relationships, and manage distress. DBT is especially useful for clients experiencing emotional instability, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.
