About me

Hi! My name is Charnelle Cook and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with 9 years of experience in the private practice setting. I attended Virginia Commonwealth University for undergrad and I earned my Masters of Arts in Counseling from George Washington University in 2016. I believe that autonomy is important for clients when in therapy and take a person-centered approach, allowing my clients to lead their sessions with me. I believe that therapy is powerful and I love to help people work through their life challenges. Choosing to seek counseling services is a big decision to make, and I applaud you for making the first step in becoming the best version of yourself!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions where we are able to learn a little about each other. We will then dive into the specific challenges you're facing that led to you seeking counseling services. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I work with clients of all ages, but have a great deal of experience working with young adults to mid 20s/30s populations. I consider myself to be a relatable and culturally competent therapist. I have worked with clients of all ethic and racial backgrounds, I work with clients who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, and clients in various stages of their professional careers from college students to mid-career executives.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with clients of all races and genders, but the majority of clients that I work with are women of color, who are in different stages of their professional careers. I help my clients navigate the various challenges that may they face in work and romantic/family relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques in my practice by helping client's identify problematic thinking patterns and setting realistic goals to improve them. I believe when we change our thinking, we can change our lives.
