Welcome! I am Yulia, a Clinical Social Worker licensed in Virginia, Alabama, and Missouri with over 8 years of experience in mental health in a variety of settings. I am here to help you overcome challenges that you are currently facing. Our life journey may surprise us with many joyful and positive experiences, but there are certainly times when we stumble upon disappointments, stressful life events, health concerns, loss of a loved one, or traumatic experiences that bring us down to our knees and make us question the fairness of life itself and our place in it. If you can relate, you have come to a right place and I applaud you for finding strengths to reach out for help.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we’ll take the time to discuss what brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve through this experience. I will also explain relevant details about Telehealth, scheduling, and answer any questions you may have. We’ll talk about the approaches I will use in our work together, and together, we’ll outline your initial treatment goals to guide our journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strength is in the ability to listen to my clients, meet them where they are, and to help clients reach their goals. As a clinician, I have worked in a variety of settings and experienced helping people with various psychiatric health needs. I specialize working with adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, experienced traumatic events, relational issues, substance abuse, or struggle to adjust to current situations.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Over the years I've gained significant experience working with clients dealing with a broad range of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life changes. This allowed me to develop a flexible, integrative approach where I draw on a variety of therapeutic modalities to meet the specific needs of each client.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma and other issues because it helps individuals recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their emotional distress. Clients learn to identify and challenge negative or distorted thoughts. For example, someone with depression may have thoughts like, "I’ll never be happy again" or "I’m a failure." Through cognitive restructuring, clients can test the validity of these thoughts and replace them with more balanced, realistic ones, such as, "I’ve faced tough times before and recovered" or "I can take small steps to improve how I feel."

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a highly effective evidence-based treatment for trauma, particularly for individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). CPT focuses on helping clients process and reframe the traumatic event and its associated beliefs, as well as address the negative thoughts that often arise from trauma. This therapy emphasizes changing how a person thinks about the trauma and the meaning they’ve assigned to it. When using Cognitive Processing Therapy with trauma survivors, the focus is on helping clients identify and challenge unhelpful, trauma-related beliefs while gradually processing the emotional and cognitive impact of their experiences. It’s a structured (typically 12 sessions) yet compassionate approach that allows clients to reclaim control over their thoughts and their lives as they work through the aftermath of trauma.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Applying a culturally sensitive therapy approach means actively considering the cultural context of your clients and being open to how cultural factors influence their worldview, experiences, and approach to therapy. This approach helps build trust, fosters collaboration, and ensures that clients receive the most relevant and supportive care possible.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBT) is a type of therapeutic approach that integrates mindfulness practices with traditional psychological techniques to improve mental well-being. The goal is to help individuals become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment, without judgment. This heightened awareness can lead to a reduction in stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges. I teach my client mindfulness skills and incorporate them in the work we do together in sessions.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

This approach focuses on creating a therapeutic environment in which the client feels deeply understood, valued, and accepted. My role is to offer unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness, which allows my client to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental space.
