About me

Sophire Nelson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a passion for supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and negative self-image. A North Carolina native, Sophire takes a holistic and client-centered approach to therapy, integrating evidence-based practices such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). She is also certified in the Safe and Sound Protocol—a listening-based intervention designed to help regulate the nervous system and reduce symptoms of anxiety and stress. Sophire is known for creating a warm, nurturing, and authentic therapeutic space where clients feel supported to explore the root causes of their challenges. She believes that healing involves both insight and action, combining psychodynamic exploration with practical tools like CBT, meditation, and relaxation strategies to promote emotional balance and everyday well-being. Psychoeducation is a core part of Sophire’s approach. She helps clients understand how their brains and bodies respond to stress and trauma, empowering them with knowledge that fosters a deeper sense of control, safety, and self-compassion. Her goal is to walk alongside clients as they rediscover their inner strength and move toward lasting healing.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

First sessions with me include us working alongside together to complete an initial diagnostic assessment. We will introduce ourselves while I share more about our new therapeutic and professional relationship. I allow room for questions that the client may have for me to ensure the clients needs are met.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a therapist lie in creating a warm, nurturing, and authentic therapeutic environment where clients feel safe to explore the deeper roots of their struggles. I use a psychodynamic approach to help clients gain insight into the underlying patterns driving their current concerns, while blending psychoeducation, CBT, and trauma-informed care to support practical growth and change. I intentionally go at a pace that feels comfortable for each individual, using gentle confrontation when appropriate to help clients move toward meaningful progress and reach their treatment goals. My goal is to foster a relaxed, collaborative atmosphere where clients feel both supported and challenged as they work toward healing and lasting transformation

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

She enjoys working with clients who are dedicated to living more mindful, empowered, and fulfilling lives. Her goal is to walk alongside clients as they shift from a place of chaos to one of clarity and peace—releasing what no longer serves them and stepping fully into their potential.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients identify the thoughts, beliefs, and interpretations that influence their emotions and behaviors. My approach is collaborative and practical—together we explore patterns, challenge unhelpful thinking, and build healthier ways of responding to stress. I incorporate gentle psychoeducation, real-life examples, and skills clients can immediately apply. My goal is to help clients feel more empowered, clear-minded, and capable of creating meaningful change in their daily lives.

Attachment-based

My attachment-based and psychodynamic approach helps clients explore how early relationships and past experiences shape their current patterns, emotions, and connections with others. I create a warm, secure therapeutic space where clients can safely understand these patterns, gain insight, and begin forming healthier relational experiences. I help clients notice triggers, unmet needs, protective defenses, and emotional wounds—always at a pace that feels grounded and supportive. This approach is especially beneficial for clients healing from relational trauma, insecure attachment, or long-standing emotional cycles.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I draw from DBT to support clients in building emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and effective communication skills. I use DBT in a grounded, compassionate way—creating a safe space where clients can explore their emotions without judgment. I help clients understand their emotional patterns, learn to self-soothe, and practice skills that increase stability and resilience. My DBT-informed approach is especially helpful for clients who feel overwhelmed, reactive, or disconnected from themselves.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

My IFS-informed work focuses on helping clients understand the different “parts” of themselves that hold emotions, beliefs, or protective roles. I guide clients in building curiosity and compassion toward their inner world so they can heal wounded parts and unburden long-held emotional pain. This method empowers clients to reconnect with their core Self—calm, confident, and capable of leading their lives with clarity. I use this approach gently and collaboratively, allowing clients to move at a pace that feels safe.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I integrate mindfulness throughout the therapeutic process to help clients slow down, tune into their bodies, and increase awareness of their internal experience. I use grounding exercises, breathwork, and present-moment practices to support emotional regulation and reduce anxiety. My approach helps clients notice their thoughts and feelings without judgment, strengthening their ability to respond rather than react. Mindfulness becomes a pathway toward self-compassion, clarity, and inner balance.
