My name is Magalis but you may call me Maggie. I am a licensed clinical social worker who has experience working with survivors of domestic violence, at risk youth and young adults involved in the child welfare system who are transitioning to independent living, individuals experiencing grief and loss, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and addiction. The majority of my career has been centered in trauma therapy, as I have worked with survivors of sexual assault, childhood abuse, homelessness, cultural displacement, and domestic abuse. I also have experience working with individuals under the supervision of parole and probation, and currently work as a Mental Health Clinical Director at a correctional facility. I have been trained in Anger Management and have worked with individuals who have legal involvement and are mandated to treatment, in addition to individuals who are on a personal journey seeking growth and change.
The first session is our opportunity to ask questions and to understand what brought you to therapy. We will identify goals you want to achieve and develop a treatment plan to focus on working towards those goals.
I am an active listener and prefer to offer validation and feedback. I am down to earth and easy to talk to. I like to pay attention to connections and ask questions that will prompt thinking and self reflection.
I decided to return to private practice on a part time basis because I genuinely enjoy the work I do. Working in a correctional setting is a passion of mine, but as you can imagine, therapeutic interventions can be time limited and stretched out over months between sessions. However, whether it is one, two or continuous sessions either in a controlled environment or in the free world, I love the interaction of listening to my patient and allowing my patient a safe space to feel heard and validated, while also offering clinical interventions and strategies that will aide my patient in improving their quality of life. I am open -minded, and objective, and feel comfortable working with anyone who is feeling confused, unfulfilled, "stuck", and misunderstood. I am here to offer you the opportunity to explore your own personal story and to provide encouragement as you continue your learn more about yourself and implement change.
