Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Virginia. I work with adults 18+. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, motivation, self esteem and confidence, trauma, and depression. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our sessions and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I work a great deal with first responders, couples, and those who struggle with intrusive uncomfortable thoughts. I am honored to be here to support you in the healing process.
In our first session together we will begin with brief introductions and some background. We will then move into specific challenges you are currently facing. This will help to build a tailored plan to resolve or cope in a more effective way with what theses issues are. We will go over what has worked in the past for you. What your interests currently are. My goal is that your therapy plan work into your life seamlessly as to not add extra things to do during your day but enhance what you are already doing. Building improvements and a better overall life.
I have worked in mental health crisis for the last 17 years. I have seen people at there very worst. I believe my greatest strength as a therapist is empathy. I am able to sit in the mud with my clients while simultaneously challenging them to get cleaned up. My empathy for my clients allows me to empower them to be a better version of themselves than they were yesterday and today, and to keep striving. I enjoy celebrating all my client's victories big and small.
I enjoy working with clients who are open and willing to work through their issues; not only doing the work inside each therapy session but also the work outside of therapy. Those who are open to learning new skills and can be truly honest with themselves. Honesty is the biggest key piece in allowing therapy to work for you. I do give out homework and sometimes its pretty easy and other times it might bring up the difficult stuff. I really enjoy when clients write down things in between sessions they want to discuss, as most of the time, the mind goes blank when in session and that one important thing doesn't get talked about or brought up at the very end.
I have been using Integrative Therapy for the last 17 years. At it's base I do lean heavily on the concepts and techniques found within CBT. CBT treatment method challenges reoccurring thoughts and manages emotions these thoughts provoke within us. In congunction with CBT, I typically borrow techniques from Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, as well as Couples Counseling, depending on your individual needs. The outcome goal is to provide my clients with knowledge regarding connections between their thoughts, emotions and behaviors; as well as, provide them with effective coping skills to move through difficult life moments with reduced negative emotions, stress and anxiety.
