About me

Hello, My name is Tom, and I have practiced clinical Social Work for over a decade. I specialize in PTSD/trauma-related disorders. I have a family and enjoy gardening year-round. As a clinical social worker, I work from a strengths-based approach; meaning, I work with individuals' strengths to build a foundation of safe and healthy coping and problem solving skills, as well as assist in allowing for ongoing introspection.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

You can expect that I will first work to establish a trusting relationship with you. Then, we will work to identify the reason for being in therapy. Thereafter, I will ask many questions that are necessary to assist in developing your treatment plan, complete the intake session, and so that I have a firm understanding of your overall needs and expectations from me.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am dependable, caring, and knowledgeable. I am a wonderful active listener and always have hope for anyone to commit to and develop the tools to have an overall positive change in one's thoughts, feelings, and behavior.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I thoroughly enjoy working with those who have trauma. I especially enjoy working with combat-exposed Veterans. I am open to working with those with anxiety, depressive, and hyperactive disorders. I enjoy working with families and couples as well.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I have worked with EMDR for over 12 years, and have personally practiced the use of EMDR for five years. I am EMDR trained. I use EMDR to help reprocess traumatic events, and therefore helping someone recognize their trauma triggers, how the environment impacts their trauma, and then how to incorporate safe and healthy coping and problem-solving skills.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used CBT for nearly two decades. CBT helps one specifically identify a stressor, and then working to identify the thoughts/feelings, behavior, and outcome of the stressful situation. This leads to then identifying negative cognitions and maladaptive patterns. Therein, one is able to restructure how they think/feel and behave when faced with said stressful situation.
