LCMHC, 12 years of experience
Hey there, I'm Jessica! I'm here to help you sort through the things that are difficult right now, and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgement. I specialize in working with adults and adolescents who are feeling stuck or overwhelmed. I believe everyone has the inner strengths needed to live their best life. But, it can be hard to recognize those strengths through the fog our stress response triggers. Whether you are a parent seeking support for your teen, or an adult looking for your own peace and stability, you have come to the right place. Overwhelming anxious thoughts, relationship issues, school/work avoidance, irritable mood, low self esteem, trouble concentrating, problems sleeping; These are some of the more common complaints clients have when first coming to therapy. Together we will work to identify the strategies or support you need to overcome whatever challenges you face. Many people struggle a long time before seeking mental health care. But mental health is health! Just like in other specialties, preventative mental health care can be so effective in avoiding crisis and more serious illness. You do not have to suffer to deserve support! No matter the level of stress you are going through, you are worth taking care of.
We'll start by getting to know each other and the therapy process. I'll give you some information about what to expect from our time together and answer any questions you have. We will then begin working right away on any urgent challenges you are facing, and create a treatment plan so we have a shared understanding of the focus of sessions moving forward.
After a decade in this profession, I have found that the most important aspect of the therapeutic process is the genuine relationship I have with my clients. I am truly passionate about supporting client growth and watching you bloom into the best version of yourself. Cheering for you through all the wins, and sitting with you through all the losses. I have a wide range of training and pull from any modality and experience I have to best support client's needs. I believe each counseling experience should be unique and one of a kind, tailored to the person I am with in that moment. I hope you will feel that in our work together.
I pride myself in being able to meet any client where they are. Meaning, no matter your age, race, gender or needs, I will use everything I know to help and support you. And if I don't know how, I will help you find someone who can! But, I would say my expertise over the years has naturally come to be in working with clients struggling with anxiety and relationships. Helping them to navigate the stress that comes from different phases and stages of relationships. Relationships with their significant others, parents, children, friends, etc. Also, after working for many years as a school based therapist, I have a special place in my heart for Teachers, Administrators and all other school staff. I know first hand the immense stress and pressure that can be put on staff in school systems. I love reminding them of their strengths and what treasures they are to their students and their community!
I have extensive training in CBT and found the most success in utilizing strategies from this approach in my work with clients who struggle with mild to severe anxiety. CBT strategies help to identify negative thinking patterns so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.
The foundation of my therapeutic style is person centered, a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. I believe each counseling experience should be unique and one of a kind, tailored to the person I am with in that moment. I hope you will feel that belief in our work together.
MI is one of my preferred approaches because of it's collaborative and goal oriented focus. I have found that clients are most successful when they are personally motivated and committed to their goals. Sometimes clients find themselves in therapy through the suggestion of a loved one; a partner, a parent. Using this approach, I am able to explore clients own reasons for change in an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.
I love using ACT in working with people experiencing anxiety especially during a period of separation or divorce. This is a time where self talk can be at it's most negative and emotions at their most intense and uncomfortable. Through the process of acceptance of their difficult circumstances clients are more effectively able to respond to difficult situations and then commit to living a more worthwhile life through positive and confident behaviors.
