Hi! I am a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) based in the greater Lansing, Michigan area. I graduated from Michigan State University and have extensive experience in advance care planning, working with people with chronic health conditions, older adults, LBGTQ+ identity, caregiver stress, family dynamics, depression, anxiety, and trauma. I help people from young adulthood through late life identify and utilize their strengths to promote quality of life for my consumers.
In our first session, you can expect introductions to each other and delving into your specific goals and desired outcomes of therapy. From there, we will tailor a plan together to help you reach your therapeutic goals to help you live well.
As a provider with vast experience in domestic violence, LBGTQ+, health and end-of-life care, grief and bereavement, depression, and anxiety, I bring the strengths and knowledge of each area to each client situation to help my clients identify the best path forward to meet their therapeutic goals. From college students choosing a life or career path to the sandwich generation caring for family, older adults and chronic to end-of-life experiences and care, we will work together on a plan of care that fits your needs and goals.
I am passionate about working with adults transitioning through health concerns, caregiving stress, grief, and increasing coping skills. My clients desire help in working through life stress and seek the tools and understanding to do so. They may have goals and desires that overwhelm, confuse, or make them anxious and seek a partner in their mental health journey to guide them to identify strengths, coping skills, and interventions to help them lead their best lives at home, work, and in relationships.
I work to help clients recognize and utilize their strengths to help them work through and cope with life's challenges. In combination with cognitive-behavioral therapy, realistic goal-setting, and a compassionate, solution-focus, I work with people to meet and/or exceed therapeutic goals in order to enhance quality of life.
I partner with my clients to identify negative thoughts that influence their emotions and behaviors. We assess and identify distorted thoughts and thought patterns that increase symptoms of depression and anxiety and work together to interrupt these cycles with healthy thought patterns that acknowledge feelings and emotions while maintaining hope and future orientation.
I teach my clients to aid in learning acceptance and change in their thoughts and behaviors. Similar to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy involves clients learning to accept themselves without judgement and work toward making positive changes to build a better quality of life through managing intense emotions and improving relationships.
In combination with other treatment methods, I use Solution Focused Brief Treatment with clients when they are at a point in their therapeutic journey to maintain a future-focus. I encourage my clients to focus on goal-setting and goal-achievement by focusing on what they can do versus what they can't do. The focus of this treatment modality is on client progress and successes. Instead of delving into past experiences and concerns, this modality allows clients to focus on what they can accomplish.
