I have been working with clients for over 10 years from a variety of demographics. I have been providing therapy since 2017. I continually like to expand my knowledge and participate in trainings and further education. Depending on what is discussed in session, I might send home information for further reading or just a handout as a reminder of what was discussed as a referral tool in between sessions. I firmly believe I can help clients break free of negative thoughts and behavior patterns.
During our first session, I encourage the client to discuss more in depth what their reasoning is for coming to therapy. We will develop goals together and discuss what progress will look like to them. I allow ample space for the client to process what has been occurring in their life that has been causing distress. I also will share how sessions are usually conducted and explain my primary treatment modality. This is to ensure clients know exactly what to expect from me as a therapist. I hope the client feels supported, heard, understood, and motivated to continue therapy.
One of my greatest strengths is being extremely supportive and warm. Majority of past clients have said that I am very easy to speak with and kind. I feel as though I have a really strong capability of detecting negative patterns & behaviors in a client's life early upon meeting. I consider myself motivational and encouraging as well.
I enjoy working with clients who have identified there needs to be a change in their behavior and are ready to talk about it. That doesn't necessarily mean they know exactly what needs to be changed - that's where therapy comes in. I also enjoy working with couples as I can quickly identify the breakdown in communication and repeated patterns. I have worked for the past 8 years with the SMI population and am very familiar with personality disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, and MDD. I honestly enjoy working with various clients in different stages of recovery and change.
I have been utilizing CBT throughout my career as a therapist and prior as a therapist intern. It is an evidenced based practice that I primarily use.
I have utilized strengths based treatment methods with every client that I have encountered. This is usually discussed in every/every other session.
I enjoy couples counseling and am continually learning new methods and tools to support clients.
Psychoeducation is always going to be a cornerstone of my practice. It is vital to mental health treatment and understanding symptoms, diagnosis, identifying coping skills, and more.
