About me

Hello! I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 18 years of experience working with adults, families and children. I have experience working with a wide range of challenges and concerns including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, relationship issues, life transitions, and other life challenges as they arise. My approach is personalized and interactive. I believe in treating others with dignity, respect, and compassion. My approach is eclectic with a strong focus on strengths and treating the whole person. I like to combines cognitive-behavioral, dialectical, humanistic, and some mindfulness techniques. I am also trained in EMDR to work with past trauma. Together we will create an individualized treatment plan to meet your unique needs. I earned my B.A. In Psychology from the University of California, Davis. I also have a Masters in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, a second masters degree in business management and my doctorate is in organizational development. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. When you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I’ve been using DBT in my practice for the past five years. It’s helped many clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. We’ll use DBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.

Eclectic

I’ve found that using an eclectic method can be an effective and adaptive way to create a more personalized and impactful therapy experience. I’m trained in multiple evidence-based approaches such as motivational interviewing, DBT, CBT and EMDR.

EMDR

I have recently been trained in EMDR and believe it can be very useful and supportive with trauma. EMDR aims to facilitate the brain's natural healing process by reprocessing traumatic memories so they are stored in a less distressing way. The bilateral stimulation is believed to enhance communication between the brain's hemispheres, aiding in the integration of traumatic memories.

I really appreciate working with Dawniel. She is very supportive and I believe with her guidance I am making progress. Today I was very overwhelmed and talking to Dawniel helped me feel more grounded and feel more positive towards myself. I am grateful for this time to work through childhood issues that have been holding me back from being genuine and authentic about who I am.

I think that she got a decent concept of who I am and what I need in therapy pretty quickly. Seems fairly easy to talk to.
