About me

Hi! I'm Debbi and I've been practicing as a licensed psychotherapist for 30 yrs. My commitment to helping people better manage their most distressing, painful emotions and thoughts is what keeps me in this field. I have primarily worked with adults throughout my career, providing individual, family, couples, and group therapy. My main areas of expertise are understanding and healing from trauma, managing stress, anxiety and depression, coaching people in realizing life goals and furthering personal growth.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session I want to help you feel safe and at ease with me as well as with the therapeutic process. It is my job to earn your trust and build a good rapport with you from the very beginning. I ask a lot of questions to help me understand the specific challenges and concerns you're facing so I can best support you in achieving the outcomes you're looking for such as not feeling completely overwhelmed with depression and anxiety every day or understanding why you have such strong, negative reactions to some things and how to work through them.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

In the 30 yrs I've worked as a therapist, my clients have told me that what has helped them the most is my deeply empathic and caring listening style. I'm dedicated to providing a non-judgmental, respectful, compassionate and culturally sensitive space for my clients to share their stories. I provide the emotional support and validation necessary to feeling heard, seen, understood, and valued.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My passion is collaborating with people wanting to move out of survival mode and into a space of self-acceptance, compassion, and awareness. Living life by default is not pleasant or effective. If reacting impulsively from a fight-flight-freeze-appease mindset has caused problems with your relationships, communication style, self-image, and basic life functioning, I can help you create a healthier way to respond to life with intention, balance, and from a place of deep understanding of yourself. This will improve every aspect of your life and help you feel empowered and confident rather than stuck and overwhelmed. I use a holistic therapy style that includes many different kinds of approaches: person-centered, mindfulness-based, trauma responsive, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, spiritual, EFT/Tapping, and psychodynamic. Tailoring these approaches to your needs can help you better understand the connection between thought, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors. From there you modify unhelpful ones to evolve into the person you want to and are truly meant to be.

My treatment methods

Compassion Focused

In my experience, people want to feel seen, heard, and understood. Compassion and empathy play a significant role in helping clients feel accepted and valued as they are. This is my primary treatment style which I use in conjunction with other treatment methods such as trauma responsive, person-centered therapy that incorporates mindfulness and a strengths-based approach.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We all filter our experiences with habits of thought and beliefs that can occasionally create problems in our relationships, and/or cause anxiety, depression, and feeling misunderstood. This treatment method involves examining our thoughts to determine if they may be inaccurate or unrealistic, which can lead disruptions in relationships and negative changes in our moods. From there the distorted thoughts can be challenged and corrected to improve all areas of our lives.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

This type of treatment involves collaborating with the therapist, who provides guidance, support, and a fresh perspective, to help resolve problems and achieve desired goals satisfactorily and more quickly without needing longer periods of formal therapy.

Mind-body approach

I teach an uncommon but highly effective method for improving (and healing) any and every aspect of your life called Tapping. Originally known as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Tapping as a treatment method has been proven, in multiple clinical trials, to better physical, mental, emotional health as well as supporting the achievement of desired lifestyle changes, personal goals, self-development, etc
