Hi! My name is Tawanna Peacock and I am a Licensed Psychotherapist {LCSW}. I am licensed and certified to practice in the state of New York. I received my Masters degree from the Hunter College School of Social Work and have been practicing since 2005. I have worked in human services for over 27 years and have been afforded a wealth of opportunities to help others. Each wonderful opportunity has allowed me to further utilize and develop my skills and assist my clients with reaching their personal goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, I like to focus on building rapport and a trustful, judgement-free relationship. We will identify those areas in your life that you find challenging and difficult to navigate. Together we will create a personal plan for success.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, I have developed the ability to build a connection with my clients. I enjoy helping my clients reach their full potential and overcome their emotional and mental obstacles.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

As a therapist with a rich background in helping other; I enjoy working with people who have been diagnosed with myriad disabilities such as mental and physical illnesses and substance abuse. I have worked with a variety of people including children, adults, families, adolescents and the elderly/geriatric population. My work with incarcerated individuals in city and state corrections have afforded me the opportunity to work with inmates and their loved ones. As it relates to substance abuse; I have had the opportunity to understand and facilitate change in those who suffer from co-occurring disorders {such as Developmental Disabilities/Mental Illness and Substance Abuse disorders}.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my practice, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy {CBT} as a way to assist the person with reducing their symptoms. This treatment method can be quite effective with depression, PTSD and anxiety disorders. CBT focuses on challenging and changing cognitive distortions and their associated behaviors. This helps to improve emotional regulation and develop personal coping strategies that target solving current problems.
