My name is Denise and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I began my adult life as a high school drop-out. After earning my GED, I went on to earn an Associates in Early Childhood Education and an Associates in Human Services. I then went to get my Bachelor of Science in Human Services and then my Master's in Social Work. I am where I am at, because I had someone believe in me more than I believed in myself. I never forget where I came from and how important it is to believe in others.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I understand it can be difficult to reach out for help. In our first session, we will start with introductions and talk about what led you to reach out for help. We will then create a plan that will help guide our sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As I provider, I believe my greatest strength is my approach. I am genuine, a good listener and my ability to form therapeutic relationships.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I began my therapy career working in the local Community Mental Health Center. This allowed me the privilege of working with every age group from basically 3 years old to clients in their 90's. I have worked with a wide range of diagnoses including Anxiety, Bipolar disorder, Addiction, Grief and Loss, Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder. I experienced a life-changing event that left me visually impaired and work well with those who are experiencing a life transition or disability.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

I have been using Motivational Interviewing for the last 11 years to help clients with their feelings around changing behaviors and to work with them to develop a plan of action for change. Change is hard and sometimes it is difficult to know if changing will be "worth" it. I use this approach to meet my client where they are at, listening to their perspective and helping to discover the reasons for change.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have been using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for 11 years. I have found that the DBT skills can be very effective to help individual set boundaries with others, communicate with others more effectively and learn coping skills to help with everyday challenges in life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for 11 years. I have used CBT to help clients look at how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors can contribute to difficulties in their life and how changing these can improve their well-being.
