My name is Karen Johnson and I am a licensed clinical social worker that has a vast array of professional and personal experience. I am a graduate of Temple University and have close to 20 years of experience working with mostly adults, but several years of working with children and adolescents early in my career. I strongly believe, you know yourself best and would like to work with you in a collaborative fashion. I see each client as a whole person that encompasses the mind, body and spirit. I use an eclectic approach in my work using a variety of tools such as mindfulness, progressive muscle relaxation and other mind and body-based techniques. You are your own expert and I can help you facilitate change and growth in your daily life.
During our first session, we will go over your initial intake and why you are choosing to engage in therapy. We also will explore if we are a good therapeutic match and what you would like to get out of the therapeutic process.
My greatest strengths as a provider is active listening, techniques in between sessions and a good sense of humor.
Clients who would best work with me are those working through life transitions, work/life balance, relationship challenges, grief and loss, trauma and serious mental health concerns.
I believe strongly in the mind body approach within the therapeutic process. I use techniques such as progressive muscle relaxation and other mindfulness techniques to reduce symptoms.
There is no timeline to grief. We learn to integrate grieving into our daily lives. I have a trauma-based approach to grief. I also have specialized training and personal experience with survivors of suicide.
In my many years of practice, I have worked with a large percentage of clients who have experienced some form of trauma through their lifespans.
I incorporate multiple modalities and my own personal experiences to have a collaborative journey on how to best help you work through your daily stressors.
